Sunday Night Sample - Eminem Feat. Nate Dogg - 'Till I Collapse (Birthday Edition)

Today is Marshall Mathers' 49th Birthday. Next year Slim Shady turns 50. Imagine that?

So in honor of him, tonight's Sunday Night Sample is going to be one of the best songs from his catalog that was shockingly not featured as an official single.

Despite not being promo'd as a single, it is one of Eminem's biggest songs commercially of his career.

“‘Till I Collapse” was featured on Eminem’s 2002 album The Eminem Show. Back in 2018, the track, which featured the one and only Nate Dogg, was certified 5-times Platinum by the RIAA, and today, it’s one of Em’s most-streamed songs on Spotify.

In the song's second verse, he famously raps who he thinks are the best rappers of all time. This list goes in descending order and starts with Redman followed by Jay-Z, Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G, Andre 3000, Jadakiss, Kurupt, Nas and it ends with himself.

So while you're in it, try to get as much shit as you can
And when your run is over, just admit when it's at its end
'Cause I'm at the end of my wits with half the shit that gets in
I got a list, here's the order of my list that it's in
It goes: Reggie, Jay-Z, 2Pac and Biggie
André from OutKast, Jada, Kurupt, Nas, and then me
But in this industry I'm the cause of a lot of envy

Listen carefully to the song's double-time drums and the clapping beat and you can hear the drums from the legendary "We Will Rock You" by Queen.

How Eminem and Aftermath were able to clear this is one of those things you're able to actually do when you're one of the biggest names in the world, with monster album budgets. It had to have cost a pretty penny which makes you wonder even more why it wasn't released as a single.

Happy birthday to Mr. Mathers.

p.s. - if you wanna run through a wall hit play on the 50 Cent remix. This song + 50's verse from back when he was briefly the best rapper in the game will make every hair on the back of your neck stand attention.
