Six minutes in internet time is an eternity, so when someone originally sent me this video I scoffed. "You expect me to watch this. Child please", I said while simultaneously clicking on link. Then, I started to watch...and thirty seconds in I was hooked. The horrors this poor woman endured I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. At first I didn't even believe her. It's still tough to believe- children eating rats, rats eating children, bodies of starved citizens piled in the streets, hospitals reusing the same needle for every patient, but it's true. It's all true. Why would Yeonmi lie? So she can get put on another hit list by the North Korean government? I guess I just can't imagine what it would be like to actually live under those conditions. Watch the clip and you'll see what I'm talking about. The craziest part was when she started discussing the details of her escape. Particularly when she mentioned that she and her mother couldn't tell their father their plans to leave because if he knew and the government thought he knew, they would torture him to death. Then there's the no electricity, Kim Jong-un fortifying the borders with landmines, and basically every other word coming out of her mouth. Just watch the clip. Trust me. There's also an eight minute clip on North Korean starvation that's equally as jarring...
