This Weekend It Came To My Attention That I’m Officially Washed Up

My best days of partying are behind me, that I’ve known since the day I left college. But this weekend was the Mike Tyson punch of wake up calls that followed a very gradual realization that my life has been speeding past me. I’m only 26 (turning 27 next month) but I (as well as my friends) are absolutely, positively washed up. My best friend is engaged with a 9 month old daughter. My other best friend is married. Another of my best friends is engaged with a baby on the way. Just two summers ago I was spending every single weekend down the jersey shore with this group of degenerates chilling on the beach, boozing and attempting to pick up girls (key word ”attempting”).

Fast forward two years. How I’m spending my weekends now? I hung out at my best friends house playing with his 9 month old daughter while she crawled all over the house and melted my heart with every smile and look from her beautiful blue eyes. We talked sports, gambling and potential investments in real estate that we almost definitely won‘t actually pull the trigger on in between feeding the baby and picking her up and putting her back within viewing distance after she would try to crawl away like the cute little speed demon that she is. You know, just normal guy stuff. Couple guys being dudes just posted up with a 9 month old baby on a lovely summer Saturday afternoon. Very progressive of us actually.

It’s all good though, that was just the calm before the storm because it was boys night out!!!! Wait a minute? Every night used to be the boys night out. Now it’s boys night out because my friends wife is out of town and my other friends fiancé was at a bachelorette party the night before so in return he gets a night out with the boys. What happened to us?! Like I said our LIVES used to be boys nights out. Pretty selfish of my best friends to all start families when we still have some good partying years left in us if you ask me. 27 is that age where old people tell you you’re young but young people tell you you’re old. A true no mans land of ages. In your 20s still but much closer to 30 than 20. At 27 you still have enough gas in the tank to rip a three day bender a couple times a year but not every weekend like you were accustomed to just a couple years ago. Life comes at you fast.

Getting old really sucks. Old people always say that to you when you’re a kid and you never wanna hear it but god damn is it the truth. Being in high school and college was awesome. I definitely can’t sit here and complain about my job and the incredible experiences I’ve had post college, but the simplicity of life with little to no responsibilities and bills is absolutely unmatched. You wake up and just float threw the day. Damn it’s good to be young. I can now officially say that because I’m washed.
