The Hot Tub Meta Is Corrupting Twitch And There’s Only One Thing We Can Do About It

What we are seeing on Twitch right now is truly one of the most incredible gaming metas in history.

Originally, Twitch was strictly meant for gaming. However, on September 26th, 2018, Twitch launched a "Just Chatting" category that really opened up the platform for a ton of new content. Right now, it's Sunday afternoon and the Just Chatting category has 526,000+ live viewers compared to Warzone's 160,000+ live viewers.

Let me preface this blog by saying that there are two types of streamers on Twitch regardless of gender - those that care about their community + producing quality content vs. streamers that solely care about money and getting an easy buck. A perfect example of a streamer that cares about their community + producing quality content is MMA fighter Megan Anderson. She's been grinding for a while on Twitch and finally became a Twitch Partner (think of this as the blue checkmark for Twitch) last month.

I have become very good friends with Megan from casting the "Baddest MFer in Verdansk" UFC Kill Race Tournament with Robbie Fox.

Now, on the other side of the Twitch spectrum, is the Hot Tub Meta, and long-time streamers on the platform are not liking it.

Since the dawn of Twitch, simps have held the line for their favorite female streamers - look at Pokimane's army for a perfect example. These hot tub streamers are pulling insane numbers of concurrent viewers, subscribers ($4.99/month) and donations, all for streaming in a bikini and a hot tub. Most of them have subscriber/donation goals that if they get X amount of dollars, they will change bikinis (off cam of course).

Other known Twitch creators have also joined the party and began poking fun at the current state of Twitch -

I don't see this shift changing anytime soon because Twitch viewership is up for less time streamed. And let's be honest, the more money Twitch makes off the hot tub meta, the more they'll let this style of streaming continue.

If you can't beat 'em, join em and Barstool is all about adapting.

The Answer: Twitch NEEDS Hot Tub Glenny Balls and they need him now.

Glenny isn't the hot tub streamer we deserve, but he's the hot tub streamer that we need.

If anyone is bored and wants to do "field work," let me know your thoughts about this current Twitch meta.
