We Need More Coaches To Bring the Intensity Alabama’s Nate Oats Shows on the Sidelines
On today's Pardon My Take, Alabama Head Coach Nate Oats joined the show. The man at the helm for the Crimson Tide discussed his coaching journey so far, working with the Hurley's, a tournament update, and more. If you know one thing about Nate Oats, it is that he is passionate on the sidelines. Look no further than this clip, immediately after Alabama beat LSU in the SEC Tournament Championship Game:
Now, the passionate coach joined Mr. Cat and Mr. Commenter to discuss the consistent intensity he brings to games and practices. Take a look:
Mr. Cat: Have you been asked or commented on the end of the SEC Championship Game, which by the way, was one of my favorite games of the entire year. That was a high-level game, great shot making, great drama. What exactly did you say to LSU in that moment?
Nate Oats: I don't know what I said, I got really excited. I think some people tried to read lips, I didn't mean any disrespect to LSU. I figured you guys would bring that up, somebody did a little Big J Journalist research.
Mr. Cat: I watched it, I watched it! I was watching it, it was awesome, and I actually have a bone to pick with you, because I think the style you guys play, the way that you speak your mind is all refreshing, but you apologize too much. The fact that you apologized for Coach K earlier this year, those comments, stop apologizing. Just be yourself.
Nate Oats: Just say it and just be done with it?
Mr. Cat: Yeah, what does it matter? People disagree. That to me, at the end of the SEC game, that was just a coach who was passionate about his team, who was in a great game, who's been in a long season, letting out a little bit of emotion. That's sports, like that's sports, that's what it should be about.
Nate Oats: That is what it was. I was fired up. Did you see the little brouhaha, the little scuffle before the game?
Mr. Cat: Yes, that's why we watch sports.
Nate Oats: There was a little extra emotion involved in that one, and there was a few other things going on behind the scenes. So we needed to make sure we had that win. Yeah, we got that win. We're good.
Mr. Commenter: I think I read your lips after the game, what I saw was, "Great freaking win, guys," and I was like, "Yeah, I love that passion."

Nate Oats: PFT's my guy. PFT's my guy, that;'s what I'm claiming, that's what I said.
This is the type of coach that it seems like it would be a ton of fun to play for. Whether it's Oats at Alabama, the Muss Bus at Arkansas, Will Wade of LSU, and many more, the future of SEC basketball is in great hands with the passion on the sidelines. Great for the sport.
