This is some absolutely tragic, shocking news via UFC prospect Khamzat Chimaev on Instagram. It appears his young career may now be over following the second cancellation of his matchup with Leon Edwards in a row due to the lingering physical effects Chimaev is still facing after testing positive for COVID-19 in January. It was the third time the bout was cancelled overall.

It's unclear from this post whether or not Chimaev is retiring due to the discovery of a pre-existing condition that was uncovered after he got COVID, or if this is directly COVID-19 related, but it's the stories like this that truly scare the shit out of an an anxious fella like me.

Cody Garbrandt had himself quite the battle with the virus himself….

I start thinkin, "If this wretched virus can bring guys like Khamzat Chimaev and Cody Garbrandt to their knees, what the FUCK could it do to a pussy ass bitch boi like me?!"and then 10 minutes later I've talked myself into standing in line for a rapid test in the freezing cold.

If Khamzat really IS done for good, he'll undoubtedly go down as one of the biggest "what-if's" in the history of the sport. He came in as a highly touted 6-0 prospect, picked up his first two wins in ten days (both first round finishes)….

….finished his next fight (against a legit opponent) with the first punch he threw….

….and called out just about everyone on the roster, regardless of weight division….

Immediately, he was hotshotted into a matchup with the #3 ranked Welterweight in the world, Leon Edwards, and had a title shot in his sights for 2021….

….but obviously, that doesn't appear to be in the picture anymore.

What a god damn shame. Who knows what could've been.
