Last Night's Orioles - Phillies Game Was The Wildest, Most Exciting Game Of The Year

I don't smoke but I needed a cigarette after last night's Orioles and Phils game. It had everything you could ever want. Inside the parker? Check. Late inning heroics? Yup. Bullpens melting down? Absolutely. Terrible fielding by Philadelphia? You betcha. Baltimore was down 3-0 before tying it up in the 6th, and then going ahead with 2 runs in the 7th. Looked like the Birds would cruise to another win before Miguel Castro imploded and gave up a 2-run homer to Bryce Harper, and then a solo shot to Jean Segura.

A triple to Jay Bruce and his night was done. Orioles head into the 9th down 1 against the ropes. Orioles were able to get the tying run in and still had bases loaded with 2 outs. Hector Neris got catcher Pedro Severino to pop up in the infield to likely end the inning. And then Jean Segura decided to try and become a hero.

He literally trips over the mound, tries to call off Rhys Hoskins, and the ball falls. 2 runs score and the Orioles go up 2 when they should be headed to extras all tied up. Segura had 0 reason to try and catch that, it's Rhys' ball 100 times outta 100. I loved it. I was HOWLING. Orioles Magic, feel it happen. Things like that happen to World Series teams, teams of destiny if you will. But as is tradition, the Orioles came back and gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the ninth, and now we were headed to extras tied 8-8. Normally that is the stuff the Orioles do, not this season.

Austin Hays led off extras for the Orioles and wasted literally no time in cashing in. SMOKED this ball to center, looked like a single until Roman Quinn decided to dive and miss the ball by about 3 feet. Guy on second scores easily, and Hays gets his first dong of the season, without leaving the yard. Again, this was the weirdest game I've seen in some time. Last night's game was super drunk, and we still had to finish the bottom of the 10th. Jay Bruce singled to score a guy in the bottom half of the inning, but it was all they could muster up.

Orioles with a 10-9 win in 10 innings and I was literally out of breath from watching. Orioles now are 8-7, ABOVE .500 in August and would be in the playoffs if they started today. But they don't so that sentence was dumb. Regardless, this team is fun to watch and they're playing well. This was a game the Phillies had control of. Didn't matter, Orioles kept battling back. The 2019 Orioles lose this game by 8 runs, easily. Even with the shaky bullpen they were able to pull it out over a team that was expected to make noise this season. For a rebuilding club, the Orioles are putting people on notice this season. Sure, they still have plenty of time to lose some games and get that #1 pick in the draft, but for right now this is fun. 2020 is a super weird season, maybe they just make a run??

PS. Good to see Philly Media handling this loss pretty well!
