WORST: This dress reminds me of 'The Sound of Music'. Not in that it is beautiful or legendary, but particularly when Maria has to make play clothes for the children out of the drapes.

C'mon, ScarJo! Colin Jost? Seriously? If you threw a patagonia vest on him he would look like every other finance bro in NYC that lives in Murray Hill for 5 years out of college. You should break up with him and try to find an unfunny, out-of-shape podcaster instead.

I didn't love Gervais tonight. I get that being disinterested is part of his bit, but it got a little tiring. That said, this joke crushed it in my opinion. CLOSE RUNNER UP:
Best performance by an actor in a television series — Comedy: Ramy Youssef, 'Ramy'
Youssef cracked a joke about nobody having seen the show, and for me he is correct! I would have loved to see Bill Hader get some more love for 'Barry', because I think he really took it up a notch in season two. However, I can't complain since I haven't seen the winner's show. At least Kominsky Method didn't win anything. I swear to fucking god I don't know a single person that has seen it. Best performance by an actor in a limited series or a motion picture made for television: Russell Crowe, 'The Loudest Voice'
Crowe was pretty incredible in the series, where he had to play a deeply evil man while wearing a shit ton of prosthetics. I liked Jared Harris more, but Crowe's performance was definitely harder. Best performance by an actor in a supporting role in a series, limited series or motion picture made for television: Stellan Skarsgård, 'Chernobyl'
Skarsgard made a very funny joke about how the only reason he won is because the makeup director made him wear eyebrows since he doesn't have any and man, he wasn't kidding. 'Chernobyl' is fucking incredible, but I didn't think he was a chief reason for their success. I would have given this to Kieran Culkin probably. Best performance by an actress in a television series — Comedy: Phoebe Waller Bridge, "Fleabag"
'Fleabag' is one of the best comedies available to stream, and it's free to do so if you have Amazon Prime. My favorite moment from their wins (Fleabag has another win later) is this:

Best motion picture — Foreign language: Parasite
I've been screaming it since August, 'Parasite' is the BEST movie of the year and my personal favorite of the decade. This was the most obvious win of the night by a billion miles.

Best performance by an actor in a television series — Drama: Brian Cox, "Succession"
EXTREMELY well earned, in my opinion. Rami was bit snubbed, but I don't care. L to the OG, baby! Other Nominees: Kit Harington, "Game of Thrones", Rami Malek, "Mr. Robot", Tobias Menzies, "The Crown", Billy Porter, "Pose".
Best screenplay — Motion picture: Quentin Tarantino: "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood"
OUATIH is brilliant in so many ways, so I totally understand the pick. My personal choice would have been 'Parasite' because I do believe it was better or matched OUATIH in many screenwriting aspects. Particularly dialogue, which is a hard thing to do against a master like Tarantino. Best motion picture — Animated: "Missing Link"

I added the trailer instead of the win photo since this was a bit of a financial flop and not many people saw it. I'll say this, it's better than its competitors. 'Frozen II" and 'Toy Story 4" didn't move the needle much for me, and 'The Lion King' was a huge disappointment. 'How to Train Your Dragon 3' was, well, a movie.
Best performance by an actress in a supporting role in any motion picture: Laura Dern, "Marriage Story"
Love love LOVE Laura Dern. Remember when she dated Baron Davis for a while? That was nuts. I liked her a lot in 'Marriage Story', but not enough for this award. It belongs to JLO IMO, which is a cool rhyme and not an attempt to suck up to my coworker's wife. She was fucking incredible in 'Hustlers', which was one of the most pleasant surprises of the year for me. Best television series — Musical or comedy: "Fleabag"
See above gushing over "Fleabag". TMMM is incredible but the only other show I would have considered is 'Barry', which followed up an insane first season of television with an even better second season (including maybe one of the best episodes of TV ever in 'ronny/lily' Other nominees: "Barry", "The Kominsky Method", "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel", "The Politician".
Best original song — Motion picture: "I'm Gonna Love Me Again" Elton John, Bernie Taupin
I don't have a huge take on this, but I'm down with this pick. "Rocketman" was fucking awesome, and ran circles around last years Oscar darling "Bohemian Rhapsody" in my opinion.

I'm cool with this. "The Act" is pretty fucking great and Arquette is the biggest reason for that. Also: Mamn, MAMN! Patty CAKES. Other Nominees: Meryl Streep, "Big Little Lies", Helena Bonham Carter, "The Crown", Emily Watson, "Chernobyl", Toni Collette, "Unbelievable"
Best performance by an actress in a television series — Drama: Olivia Colman, "The Crown"
Colman is the best and deserves any award they can make and MORE. Her being too drunk for a speech also got a huge laugh from the crowd and me at home on my $30 Amazonbasics office chair. She's amazing in everything she does, from "The Crown" to "The Favourite" to the horny cop from "Hot Fuzz". Also, I'm happy to see all "The Morning Show" nominations that Tim Apple paid for fall flat. Best director — Motion picture: Sam Mendes, '1917'
I mentioned it on twitter, but "1917" is the best movie of the year ONLY behind "Parasite" for me. It is a technical masterpiece on filmmaking and seriously one of the most ambitious projects I have ever seen in my entire life. I think he should probably split this award with cinematographer Roger "Freaky" Deakins, without whom the movie wouldn't be possible. That's why I think Bong Joon Ho deserves the award here. He has his DNA on every millimeter of "Parasite", and it's a perfect movie. Best performance by an actress in a limited series or a motion picture made for television: Michelle Williams, "Fosse/Verdon"
I haven't seen"Fosse/Verdon", so I can't say much here. Out of the other nominees, my pick would have been Kaitlyn Dever who was great in "Unbelievable". Other Nominees: Helen Mirren, "Catherine the Great", Merritt Wever, "Unbelievable", Kaitlyn Dever, "Unbelievable", Joey King, "The Act".
Best television limited series or motion picture made for television: "Chernobyl"
"Chernobyl" deserves every award it's nominated for an then some. It's a flawless series that is perfectly executed at every single level. If you haven't seen it, binge it on HBO ASAP. Shoutout to comrade Legasov. Other Nominees: "Catch-22", "Fosse/Verdon", "The Loudest Voice", "Unbelievable".
Best original score — Motion picture: Hildur Guðnadóttir, "Joker"
Part of what helps immerse the audience into the horrible world of "Joker" is Guðnadóttir's score. It's so fucking haunting and sad, and it really helped make a lot of moments in the movie what they were. The only other nominee I would have considered is Thomas Newman, because his score added so heavily to the suspenseful moments of "1917". Other Nominees: Daniel Pemberton, "Motherless Brooklyn", Alexandre Desplat, "Little Women", Thomas Newman, "1917", Randy Newman, "Marriage Story".
Best performance by a supporting actor in any motion picture: Brad Pitt, "Once Upon a Time In Hollywood"
I'm on record saying I LOVE the character of Cliff Booth, but I wasn't particularly blown away by Pitt's acting. To me, it felt like a toned down Aldo Raine. That said, there's nothing wrong with him getting the award. He should have been nominated for lead in "Ad Astra"! I think I would give it to Pesci, only because coming back to the game after this amount of time and delivering the performance he did really blew me away. Pitt gave one of the moments of the night, though. Best performance by an actor in a motion picture — Musical or comedy: Taron Egerton, "Rocketman"
This was a huge, and very welcome surprise. Like I mentioned earlier, I think "Rocketman" was goddamn awesome, and way better than last years counterpart "Bohemian Rhapsody" which swept on award season. Egerton portrayal of Elton John was on par with Rami's portrayal of Mercury, and Egerton actually sang all the songs. Now THAT is a powerhouse performance. Only other person I would have considered is LDC or Murphy. We interviewed producer Matthew Vaughn about the movie a while back if you want to get his thoughts on the movie as well. Best performance by an actress in a motion picture — Musical or comedy: Awkwafina, "The Farewell"
"The Farewell" was so, SO good. I don't particularly love Awkwafina's usual roles, but she was so incredible in this one. The movie makes you endlessly switch between laughing and crying, and that's mostly because of her performance. None of the other nominees even come close for me. Other Nominees: Ana de Armas, "Knives Out", Beanie Feldstein, "Booksmart", Emma Thompson, "Late Night", Cate Blanchett, "Where'd You Go Bernadette".
Best motion picture — Musical or comedy: "Once Upon a Time In Hollywood"
This was a shoe-in to win. This is one of the few categories where I genuinely loved every single nominee almost equally, so I don't have much of a problem with the selection. It's immersive, incredibly well acted and has some of the best dialogue of Tarantino's legendary career. I wish "Dolemite Is My Name" got more love SOMEWHERE. Best performance by an actor in a motion picture — Drama: Joaquin Phoenix, "Joker"
We were all kinda joking(no pun intended) about how he sounded drugged out during his acceptance speech, and now I think he might have been since I can't find a picture of him with his award on Getty. Did he lose it??? Did he chuck it? I need to know! "Joker" was obviously one of the better movies of the year, and it was on on Phoenix's shoulders. He manipulated his voice, body and delivery so much to give what ended up being one of his most impressive performances ever. This was a lock from start to finish. Best performance by an actress in a motion picture — Drama: Renee Zellweger, "Judy"
I haven't seen the movie yet, so I guess I can't say shit. But it's also, like, didn't show anywhere. Whatever. Out of the other nominees, ScarJo is in the lead for me followed by Ervio. She really took her skill to a whole other level in "Marriage Story". Other Nominees: Cynthio Erivo, "Harriet", Scarlett Johansson, "Marriage Story", Saoirse Ronan, "Little Women", Charlize Theron, "Bombshell".
Best motion picture — Drama: "1917"
Our combined review is dropping later this week, but here is a snippet from mine: There aren’t a lot of movies that had as much hype to live up to as ‘1917’ did for me. For it to not only meet these expectations, but exceed them, is a huge achievement. It is gripping, highly emotional and incredibly well acted. That’s all saying nothing that this is maybe the most impressive movie of the last decade technical standpoint. I’ve mentioned a lot on LCB how I think there is a sad lack of movies about WW1. ‘1917’ gives that conflict the representation it deserves, and is also one of the best war movies ever made.
