You Can't Be Any Softer Than This Cincinnati High School No Longer Naming A Valedictorian To 'Reduce Competitive Nature'

[WLWT] – Mason High School students will no longer vie for valedictorian and salutatorian distinctions in an effort to “reduce the overall competitive culture” between students, school officials said.

Beginning with the Class of 2020, the high school will do away with both honors. School officials said it follows a yearlong study and focus group with students, staffers and families.

“We are moving to a recognition system eliminating valedictorian and salutatorian honors, and shifting to recognizing students who have achieved outstanding academic success through a multitude of pathways. The recognition system will reward our students for genuine academic success based on their academic accomplishments. This will help reduce the overall competitive culture at MHS to allow students to focus on exploring learning opportunities that are of interest to them,” said Principal Bobby Dodd.

I’m sorry, what now? We’re reducing competitive nature. Thank God I don’t live in the Mason school district because I can’t have my kid being just soft like this. Everything in life is all about competitive nature.

I mean, let’s start with sports. You have a winner and loser or is Mason cancelling that? College, you get admitted or declined. Or is Mason going to fake sending everyone acceptance letters? Jobs, you either get it or not. You get a raise or not. You get a promotion or not. Everything is based around competitive nature.

And we’re talking about high school. Yeah, they are kids, but they should also know that shit matters.

Plus, I thought we were in the participation trophy era? I thought everyone gets a trophy or everyone gets to be named valedictorian. Now we’re just taking away trophies? I need the log updated when shit like this happens.

Fucking Bobby Dodd. Such a bad rep for the name now dropping quotes like this. I wish he came out and was just like yeah man there are dumb and smart kids. Someone will be the smartest. That’s the valedictorian. Let’s compete. One time for me Bobby. One time.
