Heartbroken: ASU Baseball Drops First Series Of The Year To USC Trojans

Look, I cover the Chicago White Sox.  I know all about losing.  Losing is genetically encoded into my DNA.  I am losing; losing is me.

So you gotta imagine how I felt when I pulled up the ASU baseball schedule to find out that they dropped 2 in a row to the USC Trojans this week, a few days after losing to Long Beach State University.  Here is what I said in a blog last week:

ASU has a quick non-con game against Long Beach State that doesn’t matter before taking on the USC Trojans for a 3 game set.  The Trojans are 10-16 and complete dog shit.  Pretty sure Mark Prior is their Friday starter and he’s like 60 and has no UCL.  If ASU loses any of these games, they should just cancel the rest of their season and their 25-1 start was a fluke.  They should be completely looking forward to their three game set against Adley Rutchman the Oregon State Beavers and paying no mind to any team that falls between now and that series.

Well color me shocked.  I have a million questions I’m asking myself right now.  “Did I jynx them?” “Did they peak too early?” “Are they not actually gonna make it to Omaha thus killing off the idea I had to parlay their success into a David Portnoy sponsored trip to create marginally funny content?”

It was horrifying.  Sunday scaries on a million.

But guess what?  Hunter Bishop, Spencer Torkelson and Notre Dame HS grad Sam Ferri are still in the lineup.  Alec Marsh is still plowing through Friday night lineups like it’s the Kappa Sigma house.  And Tracy Smith is still at the helm.  You think all of them are gonna let this slide continue?  For sure not.

Nevertheless – tune up game this week against UNLV.  Non-con game, shit doesn’t matter.  Then in comes Adley Rutschman and the Oregon State Beavers for a huuuuuuuuge 3 game set.  Now in case you live under a rock, Adley Rutschman is going to go 1-1 in the 2019 draft this June.  Literally everyone has him being 1st off the board:

Switch hitting catchers that are + or better across the board don’t grow on trees.  But ya know what?  Fuck’m.  He’s not god, though he’s close and I hope the .000001% occurs and he falls to the White Sox at 3.

The 1st 30 games were just a tune up for this series.  Let’s fucking go!
