High School Administration In Trouble After Posting Super Creepy Music Video Of Female Students Violating The Dress Code
Source – A school in Texas has apologised after being called out for playing a ‘sexist’ dress code video.
In the video made by staff at The Marcus High School, teenage girls are shown wearing shorts, with some close up shots of their bare legs.
The girls were then sent to a room for ‘dress code violators’ where a teacher asks them to recite ‘I will not wear athletic shorts’ over and over.
After being shared to Twitter by student Cat Morning, the video quickly drew attention thanks to the fact that only female pupils were shown to be reprimanded despite the fact that the school is mixed sex.
Following the backlash the school’s principal issued a statement of apology admitting the video “absolutely missed the mark”.
“I’m a firm believer that when you make a mistake, you own it, you apologize, and you make it right,” the statement read. “Please accept my sincere apology for not ensuring our video achieved its intended purpose – to remind ALL students of our dress code expectations.”
Sexist? I don’t know, but this is some of the creepiest shit I’ve ever seen. I’m surprised the outrage is geared toward the lack of guys and not the lyrics to the song they’re singing. “Live fast die young, bad girls do it well…Live fast die young, bad girls do it well…Live fast die young, bad girls do it well…” Catchy yes, but having a group of girls chant in unison about an early death as some sort of punishment for wearing athletic shorts seems like a bit much. And not to get too into it, but aren’t athletic shorts the least scandalous piece of clothing you can wear? Like, unless you’re free-balling with a half-chub on a hot day they’re pretty much harmless.
When I was in high school we had the six B’s: boobs, butts, bras, boxers, bellies, and backs. If you showed any of those you were sent to B-house (ironic) and given a twenty-minute detention. Most of the time the teachers would look the other way because they didn’t want to have to stay after. Which makes this situation all the more bizarre. With everything going this administration chose to focus on what they see as the biggest problem facing their students: females in athletic shorts.
There was one funny part, though, and that was when the kids were reciting “I will not wear athletic shorts” a la Bart Simpson.
Props to the teacher for nipping it in the bud and apologizing before the story got too big. I just don’t know if she knew what she was apologizing for.
