Vintage Jordan - MJ Took Duke's Worst Player Then Beat Them In A Pickup Game

[The Athletic] - The story wouldn’t be complete without a Jordan tale that featured a bit of psychological warfare. That came when there weren’t enough players to divide teams by shades of blue, so Jordan picked Todd Anderson to be on his team. Anderson averaged 1.7 points in the 81 games he played at Duke from 1982-85. He was a bit player by every metric, but those metrics didn’t much matter with Jordan on the floor. Not only did his team win, but he also got the added bonus of sticking it to the Blue Devils by turning one of their own guys against them.

“Todd Anderson was one of the worst players on Duke’s team,” former Tar Heel Matt Doherty says. “I just remember it like they didn’t respect this kid, and as a result, a big gangly kid is not going to have the confidence. Michael just took him and fed him the ball and gave him confidence. It was fun to see.”

This is the most vintage Jordan shit I’ve ever heard. Also, this story is awesome. Mostly because of the old school days of the pick-up games. This happened across the country and stories that came out were always awesome.

Think about it. Duke and UNC show up to play, well, Duke vs UNC for like the 10th time that year. Only there weren’t enough people there to just run Duke vs UNC. Of course Jordan took the worst player from Duke. He probably picked him first too.

Think about it, how many other guys would pick their rivals worst player? This was Jordan at his peak. He knew he was going to beat anyone but more importantly he wanted to break your soul while doing it.

Jordan, man. Such an asshole. So perfect.
