The NCAA Is Refusing To Give Offensive Lineman James Hudson A Waiver Because He Never Spoke Up About His Mental Health Issues At Michigan And 'It's Too Late Now'

Little backstory here: James Hudson was a 4-star recruit who recruited to Michigan. After spending two years there he decided to transfer as he was dealing with some mental health issues and needed a new start. However, he didn’t speak up about his mental health to the Michigan staff or administration.

He did speak up about it when applying for his waiver now at Cincinnati. The NCAA said that was too late and he should have said something to the Michigan staff. Why? I don’t know. Mental health attacks people in different ways so he spoke up when he was ready to.

The NCAA lets guys transfer all the time because, well, they get beat out for competition. The starting quarterback at Ohio State this year is exactly that for instance. So you’d think a mental health issue would warrant a waiver.

Can’t say I’m surprised. I mean just recently Keith blogged this:

In a world where we all acknowledge how serious mental health is, especially in college athletics. It’s talked about all the time. The NCAA even acknowledges it. Saying it’s ‘too late’ that he spoke up is bullshit. There’s nothing funny to spin here. There’s nothing sarcastic.

It’s bullshit. I’m not a Cincinnati fan, far from it. But to think that he spoke up too late about his own mental health as if it’s some sort of ploy to get eligible immediately is a joke. The NCAA is a flat out joke. It’s been said by Keith, JackMac, Hubbs, myself and many others on this site. Fuck the NCAA.
