Russian Religious Leaders Claim Shaving Your Beard Will Make You Gay

Source - Men looking to promote a heterosexual image should consider not shaving—at least that’s what a leader of Russia’s Old Believers religious group warned recently. Metropolitan Kornily, Primate of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church, linked the absence of a beard with homosexuality during an interview with Russia’s National News Service, according to Monday reports. In the interview, Kornily urged men to stop removing their body hair in order to “protect themselves from homosexuality.”

“God gave us the rules. It is written that God created everyone with a beard. A Catholic West [has] completely fallen away from this concept. But this is clear: The icons, we cannot imagine Christ or some saint without a beard. One should not oppose its creator. It’s made a monstrous thing to see men’s clothing and hairstyles changing,” Kornily said, adding that the practice of beard shaving was a “departure from the sacred and holy.”

According to Kornily, the religious status of having a beard has “completely disappeared from the Catholic West,” which he blamed for increased instances of homosexuality being discovered in Russia. Although sodomy was decriminalized in Russia back in 1993—the country had previously imprisoned people found guilty of performing homosexual acts—Russia has generally disapproved of homosexuality across all religious and political fronts.

Shaving a bread makes you gay? Hm. If it were ten years ago I would’ve believed him but he’s failing to recognize beards are very trendy right now. Ever heard of Scruff? How about a bearded queen? Personally I’m not into the bearded look but there are plenty of people who are, guy or girl. And our droopy eyed Gandalf’s got the biggest beard of them all. Which means he’s definitely straight.

Kornily…imma let you finish, but god didn’t create everyone with a bread. I don’t shave for a week and it looks like someone slapped me in the face with a hand full of Nair. Yeah – the “Catholic west” fell off but they’ll back come around. Be patient, trends take time. It’ll start in Paris then work it’s way west. Just because you never changed your look doesn’t mean the rest of the world has to.

As a religious leader I would never in a bagillion years expect him to be more openminded. Just because someones not rocking shabby chic facial hair doesn’t mean they’re not paying homage to the lord our savior.  People show their faith in a variety of ways. Besides, I’m sure if Jesus had a razor he would’ve trimmed that monstrosity up a little. People pick what part of JC to emulate and thats what makes religion so terrible beautiful. Gay guys just so happened to pick Jesus’s abs, nothing wrong with that. The guy was ripped, it should be celebrated.

I will give him credit though gay men do like to remove the majority of their body hair. Not in a sacrilegious way, just because it’s easier to tan. I learned that at pride- half a million dudes walking down 5th ave and not a pube in sight. Russia always seems backwards. When western culture zigs they zag. Hopefully this whole beard thing will be what finally brings finally together.
