Death To The TimberBulls As Jimmy Butler Demands A Trade

Oh, you thought it was football season? You thought we’d have to wait until the free agency to see the Jimmy Butler-Timberwolves pairing come to an end? Well, in honor of football season; NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND.

Jimmy Butler has demanded a trade. Now, the curious question is what teams is he open to signing a contract extension with? I’d guess it would be the Lakers/Clippers and whoever he thinks Kyrie is going to sign with. I’m looking at you, Knicks (in my dreams). I think the likely candidates are 3 of Lakers, Clippers, Sixers, Knicks, Celtics. Those are the ones that make the most sense right now and I only throw the Knicks in there because of the Kyrie rumors.

That’s ultimately what it’s going to come down to. The rumor of Butler and Kyrie wanting to play together is a real one. The question is just where. If Kyrie re-signs with the Celtics, you have to trade assets here in order to get Butler. Greenie will have you covered from that aspect.

See, here’s where it gets tricky though. The Wolves can trade him to whoever they want. They can just see what the best offer is going to be and then go. The real thing here though is do we get a Paul George situation? By that I mean will we hear how he only wants to play for a certain team and then everyone overreacts to the trade being not enough only to have an All-NBA player come back to you and George obviously didn’t sign with the Lakers.

Either way, what a disaster in Minnesota. I mean think about this for a second. I don’t even think it was a bad move to trade for Butler. That’s fine. Like you didn’t give up a ton to get him AND a 1st round pick still. But, to lose Butler like this? To not make it work because Thibs refuses to change his style of coaching? That’s atrocious. That’s how you turn into a doormat in the NBA for years. Why would KAT re-sign now? There’s no reason to.

Ah, NBA rumors. I’ve missed you.
