After Saints Punter Thomas Morstead's Incredible Display of Grit and Sportsmanship Sunday, Vikings Fans Rallied Together and Raised Over $125,000 for His Charity

Following Sunday’s crazy Vikings-Saints game a reddit post was made to give credit to Thomas Morstead for his actions during the game. In case you missed it, Morstead injured his ribs on the first drive of the first quarter when he went to make a tackle on Marcus Sherels. He, at the time, believed he had broken his ribs, but was later revealed to have torn cartilage in the area, which is still immensely painful. After the final touchdown, the NFL rules stipulated you had to kick or attempt the meaningless PAT because the NFL makes no sense sometimes. With all of the Saints already in the locker room (10 minutes after the touchdown), a few ran back out to respect the Vikings and lineup on defense as Minny took a knee. The first man out of the tunnel was none other than Thomas Morstead, the team’s punter. You can read the full blog here.

Minnesota fans noticed this classy move by Morstead and decided to raise money for his charity “What You Give Will Grow” which provides emotional support for children and families, as well as the coordinating of activities at their respective facilities – working hard to find creative ways to bring joy to kids in the hospital. Initially a few thousand was raised which was great. Then that number rose to $12k and then $25k. Morstead came out with a challenge that if they raised $100,000 he would personally show up to the Minnesota hospital during Super Bowl week to present the check. That number was reached within TWELVE hours.

Update: We’re now at just under $150,000, if you want to donate to a good cause here’s the link.

The internet and social media can be a dangerous thing in this day and age, but it can also be incredibly awesome in instances like this. Raising $100,000 in twelve hours is absolute no joke and you gotta tip your cap to these fantastic Minnesota fans. I think it’d be really cool if Pat McAfee is there at the hospital during Super Bowl week to show some love for his fellow punter who he’s had on his podcast.
