Arrested Development Is Officially Coming Back For Season 5 On Netflix

ArrestedDevelopment

Variety- It’s official: “Arrested Development” is coming back for Season 5 at Netflix, Variety has learned. The streaming service has greenlit a much-anticipated fifth season of the family comedy, which is set to launch in 2018. Original creator Mitchell Hurwitz is back, along with the entire series regular cast, including Jason Bateman, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Portia de Rossi, David Cross and Alia Shawkat.

The fifth season news comes after much teasing from Netflix, Hurwitz and various cast members over the past few years, saying that a new season would be coming, but talent scheduling was delaying the renewal. After airing for three seasons on Fox from 2004-2006, the sitcom went to Netflix for a fourth season in 2013. The show never had significant broadcast ratings, but garnered widespread critical acclaim and was nominated for 25 Emmy Awards, winning six.

LETSSSSSS FUCKINGGGGG GOOOOOOOOO. I can’t lie, I needed news like this to drop from the clouds after last night’s Knicks lottery debacle. It seemed like this was inevitable once the cast agreed to contracts for Season 5, but you never know with Arrested Development. If everything worked out how it should have, it would have never left TV. But that’s another debate for another time. The T’s have been crossed and the lower case j’s have been dotted and now the goddamn loony toon Bluth family (along with hopefully Barry Zuckerhorn, Bob Loblaw, Carl Weathers, Kitty, Steve Holt, J. Walter Weatherman, Gene Parmesean, but not Ann Veal) will be back in our lives shortly. Glorious.

Now I have to admit, despite this explosion of glee I am feeling, I am also a more than a little nervous about this next season. Season 4 was somewhere between a hot mess and a huge mistake depending how you felt about it. The cast having to shoot on different days leading to the individual episodes never clicked. Don’t get me wrong, they tried something different and when the people that make that show try something, it usually is a home run. Last season was not. I’m not sure if they will have to do something similar this season or what. But hopefully we can just get back to the glory days of the first few seasons with all the utter nonsense and running jokes that made this one of the best TV shows ever.

Now lets all sit back and go down memory lane.
