WATCH: 'Joker: Folie à Deux' Dropped It's First Trailer And It Looks Like Pure Musical Madness

When this movie was originally announced, there was a split reaction to the fact that it is supposed to be a musical.  To me, this idea is perfect. 

Like I mention in this blog, I'm thinking Sweeney Todd, Phantom of the Opera, Little Shop of Horrors. All great musicals that incorporate horror elements. According to Todd Phillips at CinemaCon, where this trailer debuted, this is a "movie where music is an essential element but doesn’t veer too far from the first film." So less of a musical in the traditional sense like we originally expected but more of a thriller with musical elements. 

Like most people, I was a fan of the first movie. I think it was a tad overrated by the extremely rabid fanbase but a solid movie anchored by Phoenix & his god tier acting ability. Standard musical or not, I love the idea of getting truly freaky with the IP and letting both Phoenix and Gaga go off the handle in a creative way. The trailer showed off a lot of that with big sets, costumes and intros to musical numbers. 

The people are sick of the traditional comic book movie, so creativity is the best way forward. 

This is due to release October 4th of this year.
