Here's Everything New On Netflix In April, Including 'Black Sails' & 'Role Models'

 1. Black Sails

Follows Captain Flint and his pirates twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel "Treasure Island."

If you ask me, this is one of the few series I have ever watched that hit the same heights as 'Game of Thrones' as far as the excellent combination of world-building, production value, writing, intrigue and acting. It's one of my favorite series EVER and I'm not a big pirates guy. I will note that they promised this series would drop on Netflix a few months ago and never delivered. So we will see.

2. Born on the Fourth of July

The biography of Ron Kovic. Paralyzed in the Vietnam war, he becomes an anti-war and pro-human rights political activist after feeling betrayed by the country for which he fought.

I had a big argument with that decrepit skeleton called Chris Klemmer about this movie recently. He is of the opinion that Tom Cruise can't act and just goes through the motions. While there are a ton of examples to the contrary, I think that this one stands out. Cruise is incredible in this very underappreciated movie starring as one of Massapequa's finest, Ron Kovic. As a little side note, we interviewed director Oliver Stone a while back and he told his publicist (who relayed it to ours) that he really liked me? Shoutout to that insane legend.

3. Ripley

In 1960s New York, Tom Ripley is hired by a wealthy man to convince his wayward son to return home from Italy. But Tom's introduction to Dickie Greenleaf's leisurely life abroad "is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder".

I don't have a ton to run on with this other than the fact that I like the original movie (never read the book), I think Andrew Scott is really talented and showrunner Steven Zaillian has written some movies that I really like (Schindler's List, Mission Impossible, Gangs of New York, Moneyball)
