'Alien: Romulus' Dropped It's First Trailer And I'm Ready For Some Chestburster Action

Set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), the story sees "a group of young people on a distant world, who find themselves in a confrontation with the most terrifying life form in the universe."

The trailer doesn't give us a ton to work with but, damn, am I hopeful for this movie. The Alien franchise is one of the most interesting out there and deserves to have more quality entries.

- 'Alien' is made by an all-time director (Ridley Scott) and is one of the most iconic sci-fi movies ever made, seamlessly blending horror into the genre.
- 'Aliens' is made by a different all-time director (Jim Cameron) that seamlessly blends sci-fi into action to create one of the most iconic sci-fi movies ever made.
- Alien 3 is ALSO made by a different all-time director (David Fincher) who backtracks from the action to make a philisophical journey of introspection! (I cannot call it anything close to all-time but I do think the movie is unfairly shit on).
- I'd also argue that 'Prometheus' was damn good although 'Alien: Covenant' was a bit of a step backwards.

Then there is some dogshit entries like 'Alien Resurrection, 'Alien vs Predator' and 'Alien vs Predator: Requiem', but almost every franchise that has run this long has some misses.

Anyway, the lore is cool, space-horror will always play and I am always down to watch some chestburster action. By the way, has any male pornstar tried to make that the signature name for his money shot? Just a thought.

The cast is small but solid. Cailee Spaeny recently crushed it in 'Pricilla' and Isabela Merced has been quietly putting together a very strong resume over the past few years. On the backend, this was directed by Fede Álvarez who made one of the more interesting horror movies of the last decade with 'Don't Breathe', and was also trusted by horror legend Sam Raimi to make an 'Evil Dead' re-imagining. 'Don't Breathe' is the most interesting entry to me because obviously there is a ton of crossover in horror themes there and Álvarez did a great job with them. He co-wrote the movie along with his writing partner Rodo Sayagues.

It's coming to theaters August 16th.
