Gary Thorne Is Still Bringing Down The House With Electric High School Hockey Goal Calls
The majority of high school hockey games are lucky if they have one of the parents filming on their phone for Facebook live. Even for the games that have a broadcast, you're likely stuck with an announcer who sounds like he's breaking in his tongue for the first time.
So for a high school team to have one of the greatest broadcasters in hockey history on the call? Well nobody has it better than Kent School with Gary Thorne calling play-by-play. Imagine being an 18-year-old kid and having your goals called by the same voice that gave us "Off the floor, on the board".

The same voice that gave us "After 22 years...Raymond Bourque!"
This is the same guy who called Wayne Gretzky becoming the first player in NHL history to score 802 goals and breaking Gordie Howe's record.
And now here he is calling high school hockey games in Connecticut. 75-years-old and he's still bringing the heat on these calls. I'm sure it helps when your grandson is the one putting the puck in the back of the net. That definitely adds a little extra energy to the call. But guys like Gary Thorne who are truly great at what they do never lose that edge. It doesn't matter if they're calling game 7 of the Cup Final or a game between a bunch of teenagers. They light it up everywhere they go because that's all they know how to do.
Sidenote: There's really nothing better than high school hockey. High school sports in general, but I feel like a good high school hockey team always brought out the best crowds. There's something about having the whole school right up along the glass going nuts that you can't replicate in other sports.
