Jay Williams Refusing To Say Caitlin Clark Is 'Great' Because She Doesn't Have A Championship Is One Of The Dumbest Statements In Basketball History

What are we doing here? This is one of the single dumbest statements I've ever heard in the history of basketball. Caitlin Clark is great, there's no other way to put it. Claiming she doesn't have a title because you have Kobe mentorship? Might as well call Robert Horry one of the greatest players of all time. Might as well say Dan Marino was a bum compared to Jeff Hostetler. Charles Barkley? Patrick Ewing? Scrubs I tell you! Scrubs! And don't even get me started on Barry Sanders or Calvin Johnson. Those guys can't sniff Jerick McKinnon and Kadarius Toney.

I don't know when the whole 'ringz' (God, I fucking hate that) culture overvalued just talking about players happened, but it's time to get back to talking the way it should be. Also hilarious he starts comparing Caitlin Clark to the people who played on UConn dynasties. She plays for fucking Iowa. She lost a title game a year ago, clearly not great since Iowa can't win a title. Might as well not even show up and play the rest of her career, what's the point?

Seems like that's a pretty good record to have. She's also the biggest star in college hoops. She's the first woman you can say that about too. She's a bigger star than Edey or Knecht or Davis or any other men's player who will be an All-American. There's been plenty of big time women players before Clark, don't get me wrong, she's just the first to be the biggest in the sport.

Just a ridiculously dumb statement by Williams. I still don't know what he's trying to say besides something about a championship. Caitlin Clark will be remembered as an all-time great women's college basketball player no matter what happens in the NCAA Tournament this year. Again, not sure why the hell we gotta start screaming about rings or chips when talking about how good of a player someone is.
