The Details Of Alabama's Baseball Betting Scandal Are Out And They're Absolutely Hilarious

You may remember the Alabama baseball betting scandal from the spring, which resulted in Alabama's coach Brad Bohannon getting fired. At first, some thought this scandal would have huge implications in the college baseball world. A betting scandal involving a college coach and professional bettors? This must be a huge operation that is run by some high-level people who work in the shadows of society. How deep does it go??!?!?

Turns out that wasn't the case. This entire operation was run by two idiots quite frankly.

I love how they used Signal. They probably thought that the app protected them from all forms of crimes. How could they be caught if they were communicating through Signal? Our messages are encrypted!

The bettor attempting to place a $100k wager (at the Reds ballpark of all places), failing, and then telling the stewards the bet is "for sure going to win" is something out of a movie. Not even a movie, it's something out of a skit show making fun of a bad movie. "If only you guys knew what I knew" is an all-time line. Why did he think that was going to help him get $100k down on a college baseball game? Even the fact you were allowed to make a $15,000 bet is crazy enough and his last-ditch effort was to ominously say, "if only you guys knew what I knew!"

The bettor, by the way, is a youth baseball coach and a real estate investor in Indiana. The ultimate douchebag combo. He was charged yesterday:

Bert Neff, a real estate investor and youth baseball coach in Indiana, has been charged with destroying evidence, tampering with witnesses and providing false statements to the FBI in the case involving “suspicious wagering activity” concerning an Alabama–LSU baseball game in April.
