OF COURSE That Crazy Son Of A Bitch Ed Reed Experimented With Trying To Intercept Spikes In Practice For Years

What a crazy son of a gun that Ed Reed is. The man knows no bounds. Always in the lab looking to cook up some new hare-brained way to find an edge in a football game. He's as much of a chessmaster as the game has ever seen. We're talking about the guy that intentionally put bad reads on film weeks in advance so that he could bait Peyton Manning (regarded as maybe the greatest on-field tactician the game has ever seen) into an interception

Just next level stuff. It's a goddamn shame there were only 16-20 weeks a year to watch Ed Reed play ball because he probably had all kinds of tricks in his bag that never saw the light of day. We saw the interceptions, we saw the laterals, we saw punt blocks and creative blitzes... but some of this next level stuff just stayed in the garage, waiting for that perfect moment to come along.

I suppose we'll never know why the fake spike interception attempt never came to light. I would guess because he would generally have no business at the line of scrimmage on a play like that and any QB would salivate at the sight of seeing #20 out of position and think about calling off the spike altogether. Who knows.

But kudos to Jalen Carter for trying to make an all-time hero play. Would've been so sick.

PS: I could've written a blog claiming Philly stole another thing from Baltimore but I didn't because that's just weak and genius football is for everyone.
