I'm Feeling Reinvigorated With Today's Picks

RECORD

38-64-2 (-8.3 units)

Another underwhelming day yesterday. Trea Turner failed to go deep in game one against the Nationals. Despite pulling off a miraculous comeback in the ninth inning off of Felix Bautista, the Astros couldn't cover on the run line. The Mariners were the only team I bet on that actually did their job. They held on and beat the Padres 2-0. The M's have been red hot. That could be a team to watch out for going forward. But you know what? Yesterday was yesterday. I feel recharged. The boss man repurchased the company, and our toes are still tapping. I'm a believer in completing my circles. We're continuing onward forth with the picks, questing with the best of them until the end of this baseball season. Let's kick some ass and take a look at today's picks.

Phillies -1.5 (+110) against the Nationals

For a team that made it to the World Series last year, the Phillies are starting to fly below the radar. They didn't go all out at the trade deadline, but they did acquire Michael Lorenzen from the Tigers, who is pitching the best baseball of his career this season. We can scoff at the All-Star appearance, but Lorenzen has been remarkably consistent this year. Over his last five starts, his ERA is 1.42. And he's going up against a weak Nationals offense. McKenzie Gore is pitching for the Nationals. He's had his ups and downs this year, but in his two starts against Philadelphia, he's given up ten runs in 8.2 innings. I like the Phillies here at plus money on the run line.

Astros ML (+120) against the Orioles

I'm going with my heart here and not my head. I believe that the curse of Kevin Brown is real as it pertains to the Baltimore Orioles. On paper, I totally understand why the Orioles are the favorite here. Jack Flaherty was fantastic in his first start in a new uniform, and Christian Javier has been a mess for Houston over the last month or so. But I can't shake the bad vibes of suspending an announcer for stating facts. Last night, when the most dominant closer in baseball blew a save with a three-run lead, it proved to me that the curse is very much real. The Texas Rangers are playing the Oakland A's, so all they pretty much have to do is show up. The Astros cannot afford to fall any further back in the American League West standings. I don't think they will.

Cubs -1.5 (+150) against the Mets

I've had a lot of luck betting against the Mets recently. The Cubs are still fighting for a playoff spot. The NL Central is within reach. But they have to take care of business against bad teams, and right now, the Mets are a very bad team. David Peterson has been a mess as a starting pitcher this season. And while Kyle Hendricks is still in the twilight stage of his career, he can still pitch good baseball when he wants to. The Mets are 3-9 in games that David Peterson has started this year, with many being blowouts. I hope that trend continues tonight against the cubbies.
