Oakland A's Fans Passed Out Protest Cards At The All-Star Game And Led The Mariners Ballpark In "SELL THE TEAM" Chants As Their Lone All-Star Rep Belted A Double

Nothing like a disgruntled fanbase ruining the moment for their rookie All-Star making his ASG debut, right? That's what A's fans did last night during the game. I get that they're still mad and upset. I get they want to make a point and tell ownership to shove. But let's be real, they thought this was going to work? 

Before the game social media was talking about this protest that was going to happen. Someone had passed out cards asking ALL fans to stand up and stay silent during the 1st at-bat of the 5th. Then they would break out into "Sell The Team" chants.

Now I'm not sure if they delayed the protest and chants until the bottom of the 6th because that is when their rookie, Brent Rooker made his All-Star Game debut and you could hear very clearly the "Sell The Team" chants as he dug in the box. The broadcast had Juan Soto mic'd up so it was kind of drowned out which was probably on purpose. But he ends up lacing a double that bounces over the wall. Really cool moment for him in his career. He'll always get to watch that clip and hear the "Sell The Team" chants, which is a bummer. Why ruin your guy's moment with this? 

Again, I get why they did it….but did they think this was going to do something? All it did was ruin Rooker's at-bat for him. In 50 years he'll show his grandkids this video and they'll ask him "Grandpa Rook, why are they chanting sell the team in the middle of your at-bat and ruining your moment?" and he'll have to explain the whole thing. Time and place, and during your lone representative's at-bat wasn't it. I thought it was a weird move. Do it during pregame, do it during any other time. But not when Rooker is up to the plate, you think he wanted to be up there hearing that? He has to hear it at home games, leave it alone. I get they're trying to bring awareness to the situation, and if there is one town that knows what it's like to lose a team that wears green and yellow it's Seattle, but come on guys. Did they think Manfred would hear these and go "you know what, I'm gonna block the move to Vegas." Hell no, he probably heard the chants and then did nothing. Pull out his phone, play Immaculate Grid and go from there. He doesn't care, he doesn't want them in Oakland, he wants them in Vegas. 

Again I get protesting for what you believe in, making your voice heard. But time and place and ruining a kid's at-bat for the A's agenda isn't it. I could be way off the mark here but I think they should have done it another time. Go do it at the red carpet event or something. Instead of cheering for Rooker's double their balls deep in chants, shouldn't have been like that.
