The NBA Is Reportedly Not Getting Rid Of The One-And-Done Rule, Which Is Awesome For College Basketball

This isn't exactly shocking. We know why the One-and-Done rule got put in place to begin with. Owners didn't want to take a shot on an 18-year old and vet players didn't want a bigger player pool so they can at least get another year. Now, let me explain myself here. This is a good thing for college basketball.

I know people like to bitch about it as if college hoops can do something about it. But they can't. They can't institute a rule saying you can't leave after one year. But it's good for college basketball because we get the best talent that college basketball can for at least a year. There have been plenty of awesome one-and-dones throughout the year. Melo (before the rule), John Wall, Anthony Davis, Zion, Greg Oden, Kevin Love, Michael Beasley, Kevin Durant, etc. These are all guys that dominated college hoops while also having damn good teams.

College basketball's biggest problem isn't the one-and-done or even the transfer portal. It's bringing in casual fans for the regular season. Well, it's actually officiating, but other than that, it's bringing in casual fans for regular season games. It's a niche sport that people don't get jazzed up for until late in the year. Getting names that people know or even care about for NBA Draft reasons is a good thing. It also creates people hate watching if they have to. You know that person. I want to see the team that has been together for 4 years (LOL, thinking there's a team like that) beat the one-and-dones.

While I do think the rule is stupid, mostly because if a player is good enough to go right to the pros they should be able to, it's good for college basketball. I do wish people would stop bitching about it since college basketball can't do anything about it. It's not ruining the sport. You cheer for laundry. Shit, even Duke who proclaimed they'd never do one-and-done embraced it and guess what? Their fans stayed just as annoying.

Teams can choose how they build teams. One-and-dones, four year guys, the portal, whatever. But this isn't ruining college basketball. We're getting more and more talented players in the sport for at least a year. There are plenty of other things 'ruining' it.
