That ball that looks out to me and everyone else with eyeballs was looked at by VAR and somehow they determined that it was a good goal and THAT is the margin. That is what ultimately kept Germany from advancing even though they have a FURIOUS comeback in the last 30 minutes of their game to get to 3 points vs Costa Rica. Germany also got a late goal which would've given Germany the goal differential needed to break a tie with Japan if the Japan-Spain game had finished 1-1. 

Nobody is going to cry for Germany though. You don't want to go home early, well, take care of business like a world power should. For the second straight world cup, the Germans are going home early.
