Frank The Tank Is A Sorcerer And His Family Practices The Dark Arts

I don't believe in curses or superstitions. I think it's a stupid crutch people lean on to feel like they have control over things that are out of their grasp.  At last night's stream, Frank Fleming didn't just predict what would happen to a T but he correctly prognosticated specific elements of the game in real time that also came true. I walked into that game last night thinking the Mets were going to win that game easily behind a big performance by Max Scherzer and the bats getting to that Padres bullpen.

I was wrong. Frank was right.

After the Padres scored a single run, he said this was an "insurmountable lead".

It ended up being exactly that. The Mets only scored one run the entire game. That single run was insurmountable…just as Frank had predicted.

Also, during the stream, after the Mets had gotten a few guys on base but couldn't get any of them into score Frank predicted the next ten Mets would get out. He made this prediction with a runner on base. Here's what happened:

2nd Inning

Mark Canha flies out.

Eduardo Escobar strikes out swinging.

Tomas Nido flies out.

3rd Inning

Brandon Nimmo pops out to short.

Francisco Lindor grounds out to first.

Jeff McNeil flies out to left.

4th Inning

Pete Alonso strikes out swinging.

Daniel Vogelbach grounds out to first.

Starling Marte grounds out softly.

5th inning

Mark Canha pops out to second.

THAT'S TEN STRAIGHT OUTS. The next player Eduardo Escobar hit a home run. Frank got the number EXACT.

We also found out where the Fleming Curse began and that his father is the root cause of 36 years of failure for the Mets.

It's easy to chuckle at a clip like that. I know I did but then I really started thinking about. The 1986 Mets were the best team of the entire 1980's. They won 108 games and had a 24 year old Darryl Strawberry and a 21 year old Dwight Gooden. They even had future stars like Kevin Mitchell, Howard Johnson and Randy Myers riding the bench. The roster was so deep and built for the future and they never went back to a World Series with those guys? When the Mets finally went back to the World Series in 2000 and 2015, they were with teams that were certainly good but not great. Since Frank's dad put this "maloik" on the Mets, they haven't been great since.

I like Frank a lot. He's been very supportive to me since I got hired and is really great about going out of his way to include me in projects. Since I got hired, I'd look at his office rants as a frustrated fan venting. Now I fear there is more to them then I thought. He was right about Darin Ruf sucking. He was right about the Mets blowing the division and so far, he's nailed this Wild Card series against the Padres

Near the end of the game, I asked Clem and Frank their predictions for Game 2:

Clem: Mets 5, Padres 2

Frank: Padres 9, Mets 1

You gotta believe but it's getting awfully tough. I really don't want Frank to be right anymore.
