The Brooklyn Nets Stay Hot By Becoming The Latest Team To Unleash Their Awesome Throwback Jerseys For This Season

Stay hot Brooklyn! What a whirlwind last couple days for the Nets huh? First the organization finds a way to convince KD to get on board and they didn't have to trade him for 60 cents on the dollar. That's a pretty huge win for them. Just when you didn't think it could get any better for the Nets, we get this news. Listen I may have enjoyed their drama and chaotic offseason as much as the next guy, but I have eyes and can admit that these jerseys are white hot fire flames. The Nets now join the ever growing list of teams unleashing these incredible throwbacks for the upcoming 2022-23 season and it makes me even more excited for what comes next. By now it's pretty clear that if you are a franchise with an awesome throwback, we're probably getting it this season.

For those who may not know, this jersey brings back to life the 1973-76 New York Nets of the ABA. Once the ABA and NBA merged they were the New York Nets of the NBA for one season in 1977, and then became the New Jersey Nets from 1977-2012. During that initial era, the Nets won the 1974 and 1976 ABA titles mostly because they had this dude at their disposal

Sure Dr. J may have spent 11 seasons as a Sixer and also won the 1982 NBA title with that team (they haven't won one since) but we shouldn't overlook his era as a Net. The dude was nails averaging 30.6/10.9/5.0/1.6/1.7 in 3 seasons and in that 1976 title run Dr. J averaged a measly 34.7/12.6/4.9. Not bad. Given that he is also a UMass legend, I think every kid who grew up in New England loved Julius Erving and it's pretty clear why. The guy was a monster.

Fast forward to 2022, and it'll be awesome to see someone like KD rock this jersey. He may not be Dr. J, but he's easily one of the best SFs ever, just like Erving was. There's a ton of pressure on the Nets to win at a high level this year, and if you subscribe to the "look good, feel good, play good" mantra then this should have Nets fans excited. It wouldn't shock me if they never lost rocking these jerseys that's how awesome they are.

I do think if everyone on the Nets has their heads on straight and are committed to actually playing basketball, they are going to be just as good as any top 4 team in the East. The talent is there, which is why the KD demand was so confusing. Yeah their defense stunk out loud, but Simmons will surely help with that. TJ Warren if healthy is a legit scoring option off the bench. Joe Harris didn't die, so his shooting back in the mix will help. I know we all got jokes off this summer, but let's not pretend like this team can't contend when healthy. Remember, they were atop of the East before KD got hurt last season. Now you add these fire jerseys to the mix, and it could absolutely be a big year in Brooklyn.
