It's Officially Time For Us To Do What We Do Best - Hate Ian Poulter During The Ryder Cup

[DailyMail] - I've had a target on my back for so long and it's always the same, the trick is to feed off the energy of those rooting against you,' he said.

'It's pretty self-motivating, to be honest, when you hear that energy being expended in a way to motivate their team.

'As for the home fans, we saw with our girls in their brilliant Solheim Cup victory that there's a way of making that support work for you rather than it being draining.

'I look around at the experience we've got and I feel confident we can follow their example.'

There are few things we do better as a country than come together to hate Ian Poulter during the Ryder Cup. It's a special time during those few days when we all agree that he's the worst. It doesn't matter if he's playing a team event or Sunday singles. It doesn't matter if he's playing Patrick Reed, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson or fill in the blank. America has always, always hated Ian Poulter. There's something that always bothered me with how well he's played throughout the Ryder Cup too. It should be illegal, honestly. The man is undefeated in singles play over six Ryder Cups and I won't stand for it anymore.

He's officially coming for Ryder Cup seven too. Padriag Harrington selected Poulter, Shane Lowry and Sergio Garcia over Justin Rose. Not exactly shocking that he took Poulter, but there was a debate. Now we have these quotes. Harmless to a degree, but Poulter also knows what he's doing.  He's bringing up Europe winning the Solheim Cup over Labor Day weekend. He's talking about having a target on his back. I need all of the opposite to happen, except the booing of course. I don't care about his Ryder Cup history. I don't care that he seems to relish the boos. I need every American fan at Whistling Straits to show up and heckle him like no other.

I'll tell you what though. I've always been a little jealous of Poulter and Europe during the Ryder Cup. No it's not his success, it's the fact that he's synonymous with Europe and the Ryder Cup. We don't really have 'our guy.' Patrick Reed tried to be that, but everyone turned on him. Hell he wasn't even selected for this year's Ryder Cup and immediately caused some drama.

There's really no one that Europe truly hates like we do Poulter. I want one of those guys. Spieth always had a chance to be that, but he seems too liked by Europe. Bryson had a chance to be that but he's Bryson. DJ hasn't played well at the Ryder Cup. We need someone to take Poulter on. I want someone to call out that they want Poulter in singles. I want someone to be our guy. I watch golf every single week. The Ryder Cup is one of my favorite sporting events in the world. I'm not asking for much here. But until we get that, let's do what we do best. Let's come together and all hate Ian Poulter. Now please win, USA.
