Eyelash Extensions Are Giving People Eyelash Lice

Head louse, artwork

New York Post- Doctors are warning fans of eyelash extensions to make sure they clean the beauty products carefully — because eyelash lice are on the rise. The tiny organisms, officially called Demodex but better known as head lice, can survive on eye hair follicles as well as on the scalp.

Dude, ewwwwwwwww. I don't know about you, but I had no clue that eyelash lice was a thing. Like, we all know there's tiny little dust mites living on our eyelashes, and it's gross, but they do something positive (I think?) and you sort of just have to accept that. But LICE? On your EYES?
I like the way eyelash extensions look. I've never had them, but I totally understand wanting to just wake up and have perfect lashes instead of shellacking on mascara or glueing on falsies. But you bet your ass I will not be getting them any time soon. I don't fuck with eyelash lice (or any kind of lice, really, but that's not what this is about).
I also don't know anything about lice but they're bugs, right? Do they poo? Can they poo into your eyes? Ladies, listen, I'm not telling you to stop doing this, but probably make sure you're going to a reputable location (because like any kind of lice, it can spread really easily). And clean your eyelids, for the love of god. I know you're not supposed to get lash extensions wet, but I'd rather my extensions last less long than have itchy eyelids and bug poo in my eyeballs.
