Nebraska Is 0-3 and UCF is Undefeated, Is Scott Frost a System Coach?

For the last twelve or so months, the fake news media has led the public to believe that Scott Frost is God’s own personal gift to coaching. We all know Frost for his unfathomable 2017 season at the University of Central Florida, in which he led the Golden Knights to a 12-0 record and a self-declared National Championship after beating Auburn in the Peach Bowl. I will admit that even I, someone accustomed to the seeing a Top 3 coach in college football history every Saturday, was drinking the Frost Kool-Aid when took the job at Nebraska. If Frost can beat the third best team in the almighty SEC with his middle of the road talent at UCF, then think about what he could do against the lowly Big 10. I thought college football was returning to its golden age. I thought the Blackshirts were back.

Fast forward just nine months from what was called the hire of the offseason, and the only thing that has changed about the Nebraska and UCF football programs are the coaches. Nebraska is still a bottom feeder of their conference, and UCF is still the premier non-Power 5 team in the country.

Now all of you white knights of the internet can come at me and say that it’s because Frost doesn’t have “his” guys yet, but you also need to remember that this is a man who has made it to where he is today with other people’s guys. He spent three years as the offensive coordinator at Oregon when their current OC took over on Chip Kelly’s departure. Yeah, Frost’s offense finished in the top six of scoring each year, but they weren’t really hurting for points in Eugene before that. Frost piggybacked that deal into a head coaching gig at UCF, where again, to his credit he did a good job. But is two years of being a head coach enough to say that you had “your guys”? If so, Frost has 9 more games to turn this around before this dumpster fire of a program can finally fall under his umbrella.

NCAA Football: Colorado at Nebraska

Not only is Nebraska sitting at 0-3, they haven’t even played a quality program yet this year. Think about what is going to happen they have to start facing top tier Big 10 teams.  Their remaining schedule leaves little to be desired in the win column. I mean, they’re 3 point underdogs at home versus Purdue this weekend. Do they win a game this year? 2?

I mean, how far has Nebraska fallen since Frost came to town? Not only are they 0-3, their morals have become non-existent. Nebraska is reneging on their $1.17 million contract to play Akron and has scheduled 1-3 in the FCS Bethune-Cookman for later this year. Their game was postponed in Week 1 due to weather, and Akron came up with proposals to play again, but Nebraska would rather cost a small D1 school their one big payday and their one chance of raising the flag and beating a Big 10 school.

Forget the fact that they are afraid of playing against MAC teams right now so they have to schedule FCS schools, the Cornhuskers may want to join the FCS altogether when you think about the recruits Frost lost BEFORE this terrible start.

Yeah, I know he won some battles on signing day too, but the fact remains that it was already tough enough to bring top tier talent to middle of nowhere Nebraska. Multiply that by a million when you factor in that they stink. I’m not saying to give up on Frost just yet, nor am I saying that he is a God awful coach, but I am saying that he may be on the fast track to a unsolvable situation at Nebraska. The Cornhuskers will never beat Ohio State, Penn State, and Michigan in the Big 10 recruiting battles, and they are a clear fourth fiddle to Texas, A&M, and Oklahoma in the dust bowl area of the country. Is it possible to win in Lincoln, Nebraska? That’s not a dramatic, futuristic over-exaggeration either. I’m literally questioning if Frost will win a game against a Divison 1 football team this year.
