NFL Rewind Week 2 - AFC

LA Chargers 31, Buffalo Bills 20

First Bills game in Buffalo every year should be followed by a Monday holiday for all of upstate New York. I don’t know how large upstate New York is which is why I’m saying all of it. The whole region needs recovery time after this.

If the Bills didn’t actually have to play football games they’d be the best franchise in the world. But instead…

The Bills stink so bad that guys are straight up quitting during the game.

Josh Allen threw his first pro touchdown today, really the lone bright spot for the Bills. Looks like his parents have fully embraced Buffalo which is cool as hell. Welcome home, Mama Mafia.

The Buffalo Bills: awful football team, great fans, better shirts.

The Chargers just really played good football. Don’t really know why you’d want to see that in a football recap blog. Austin Ekeler is good I guess? Mike Williams caught a touchdown? Is that what you want from me?

Houston Texans 17, Tennessee Titans 20

No Mariota? No problem

Alright, maybe it is a sight problem if Blaine Gabbert is out there slinging the rock.

GET. OFF. OF. ME.

Play of the game goes to Deshaun Watson. A quarterback I like. A guy who didn’t start looking like himself until the second half of this game. And then, out of the clear blue sky, the last play of the game happened. Maybe the worst display of situational awareness ever in the history of situations.

What a wild series of events to end the game. He got that ball with 17 seconds, ran out time, ran over the line of scrimmage, ran back, stepped back over the line of scrimmage, and threw to the middle of the field as time expired with no time outs left even if any of that had been legal. Arguably the best play of all time depending on how you wanna look at it.

Kansas City Chiefs 42, Pittsburgh Steelers 37

Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback of all time. Through two weeks I am more than comfortable saying that with the utmost confidence.

Steelers are 0-1-1 which isn’t actually good according to most of the books I’ve read on the subject. Antonio Brown seems to agree.

They’ll be fine without Le’Veon, though.

Miami Dolphins 20, New York Jets 12

Maybe, just maybe, we all overreacted to Week 1 just a bit.

As Jets-y as humanly possible.

Darnold hitting a man in stride, the mark of a veteran.

Shoutout Frank Gore for becoming the FOURTH All Time Leading Rusher. FOURTH. As in, there are only THREE PEOPLE who have ever rushed for more yards than FRANK. GORE.

I have no idea if the Dolphins are good. My mind tells me they are not. Yet they sit alone atop the AFC East.

Oakland Raiders 19, Denver Broncos 20

You should get extra points if you make two defenders run into one another. I don’t know how you’d regulate this but they should figure it out.

This is supposedly the last year of Marshawn and I’m going to enjoy every last second of it while he’s still here.

Shoutout Maurice Hurst racking up the first sack of his career. He was a projected first round pick who got sent home from the combine after an irregularity was found with his heart. His career nearly ended before it even started. The Raiders snatched him up way later than they should have been able to and it’s already paying dividends.

I’m positive that at some point in time in my lifetime the NFL will figure out what a catch is. I know they’ll do it. They’ve done nothing to earn that belief in me but here I am, believing it, like a sucker.

Welp… that’s it for the AFC games. What a weekend it was. Real shame the NFL inexplicably canceled the Jaguars-Patriots rematch like that. I would have really enjoyed watching that clash of AFC titans. Probably would have produced something really cool like this

Oh well. Hopefully they reschedule that game sometime in the near future. Would feel pretty unfair to the rest of the league if both these teams were allowed multiple bye weeks this year but if that’s what Goodell wants then who am I to disagree with him?
