There Was A Good Ol' Fashion Line Brawl In Toronto Last Night

Kill! Kill! Kill! Kill!

That “tonight we turn the clock back an hour, these teams have turned the league back 30 years” call from Jim Hughson was incredible. Just a great moment all around for the game of hockey that needs more of this on a nightly basis. The second you saw Freddy Andersen rushing down the ice, you start salavating for blood. Needed to see him and Ryan Miller actually go at it here. I mean good on Miller for stepping in there to make sure the rookie defenseman didn’t get his face broken into a million pieces by Matt Martin. Dad Miller to the rescue. But it’s Hockey Night In Canada, brother. Give the people what they want. Drop the gloves and square up. I’ve been dying for a goalie fight these days.

MILLER: “the fuck you doin down here, eh bud?”

ANDERSEN: “I’m not your bud, guy”

MILLER: “I’m not your guy, friend”

And there’s never been a better time to be a fan of line brawls than in 2016 with modern day technology. The ref cam footage from this fight belongs in a museum or something. That’s how beautiful it was.

And as for Matt Martin starting the whole thing…. well let’s just say he didn’t exactly make any friends in Vancouver last night.

Yeah good luck with that one, pal. I know that Gudbranson is a behemoth but Matty Marts will eat his fucking soul for breakfast. Good news is that we only have to wait a month for the rematch as the Maple Leafs and Canucks play again on December 3, so I’m sure that’ll be a good clean gentlemen’s match.

Couple Sidenotes: Obviously last night’s game got extra chippy after this hit on Daniel Sedin by Nazem Kadri. I have a take.

Okay so here’s the thing. I don’t necessarily think this hit, by definition, was a dirty hit. It’s a lateral, blind-side hit for sure which I’m not the biggest fan of. But if you watch the hit again and again, the main principal point of contact was Sedin’s shoulder. The reason it looked so bad is because his helmet popped off and his face smacked the ice. You can’t exactly pin that on Kadri. Again, am I a fan of the hit? Ehhhh I think it’s pretty dangerous. But should Kadri get suspended for it? I don’t think so. He didn’t target the head, Sedin had the puck when he made contact, and Sedin was able to return to the game later on so the injury apparently wasn’t that serious. I’m sure that Vancouver fans want Kadri out of the league but when you look at this hit while your brain is turned on, you come away with no supplementary discipline.

Now let’s end on a high note. Take it away, boys….
