REPORT: Phillies Are Trying To 'Blow This Thing Up' In The Off-Season

beer

PHOENIX – The Phillies have made their offseason plan pretty clear by now. They have admitted that they are a rebuilding team and will listen to trade offers on any player. There are no untouchables. “We’re looking to improve in all areas,” Ruben Amaro Jr. said as he gathered with his counterparts for baseball’s annual general managers’ meetings Monday. “We’re looking to improve this year, but we’re more concerned with what we’re going to be doing down the road, improving down the road. “Ultimately, you’d like to not have to take a step backward, but if that’s what we have to do for the longterm viability and sustainability of our club, that’s what we’ll try to do. “Like I’ve said, we’re open to talk about anybody.” Not that an affirmation of the Phillies’ stance was needed, but a rival executive offered one during a conversation Monday. “They’re trying to blow the whole thing up,” the executive said. “Everyone is for sale.”

Blow this thing up? Isn’t that what they’ve been doing the past 3 years?

I would LOVE if the Phillies got rid of all of their big contract dead weight (Howard, Lee, Byrd, Papelbon, Rollins, Utley…yeah, basically anyone fucking over 30 years old that would never see another winning season in this town). 37-year-old AJ Burnett already did them a favor by rejecting $12+ million to NOT pitch for this shit squad another season. Other than that? No fucking dice.

Jimmy already rejected the prospect of going up I-95 to play the Mets. The Royals supposedly have interest in Howard as a DH, but good luck not eating most of one of the worst contracts in sports history. Ideally Lee, Paps and Byrd can be shipped because they’ve still got something left in the tank, but I don’t even think I trust Ruben to acquire new, young talent. Smart money is he’d trade Hamels and Giles for a couple one-year guys cause he still believes there’s a chance. A warm bucket piss has more life than the Phillies this, and for the next 10 years.

I hate this team.
