Flyers Scoop Up Defenseman Michael Del Zotto

CSN – The Flyers have signed 24-year-old free agent Michael Del Zotto, of Nashville, whose career has mostly been as a New York Ranger. Del Zotto agreed to a one-year contract on Tuesday night. The deal is worth $1.3 million, which is less than half of what he earned in 2013-14.

Yay? Sure, why not. Guess the unfortunate news about Kimmo Tinomen forced Ron Hextal’s hand rather quickly. Del Zotto has been available as a free agent since the end of the season, yet nobody has picked up the 24-year-old who has shown flashes of being a solid player. He came into the league hot in 2009 as a 19-year-old and put up 37 points. As recently as two years ago he had 41 points. However, he struggled last year with the Rangers and the Predators. NY had him as a healthy scratch before they dished him off to Nashville. We’ll see how it plays out, but for a one-year no risk, high reward deal, it seems like a win for all parties right now.

No matter how he plays at least he can take solace in the fact he looks like a goon and possibly autistic version of Andy Sandberg.
