Derrick Rose tore his ACL just reading that tweet. Maybe if every Rose had a Thorn-ton, he’d actually be able to play through the pain one time. Remember that time Kevin Ware snapped his leg in half during the NCAA tournament? You didn’t see him finish out the playoffs, did you? Heck no. But Jumbo Joe has a torn MCL and a torn ACL and he’s still out there giving it everything he’s got because it’s the Cup.

This officially kicks off the best time of the year, folks. As more teams start getting bounced from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, all these lingering injuries start to get revealed. What was before strictly reserved to a “lower body injury” finally gets a full diagnoses. Joe Thornton playing through a torn MCL and ACL. The Senators haven’t gotten knocked out of the playoffs yet but they decided to let it be known that Erik Karlsson is playing through some hairline fractures in his foot. It’s basically Christmas for hockey guys everywhere who get to point to people like Joe Thornton as the reason why hockey players are so much tougher than any other athletes.

And for what it’s worth, playing hockey through a torn ACL doesn’t exactly hurt. There’s not a lot of pain that goes on there after the initial tear. It fucks up your ability to be explosive I guess but it’s not like you’re doing a lot of planting and cutting in hockey. But it’s still great to see reports about Jumbo playing through the injury while we have shit like this in the NBA.
