Allen Iverson Is Back To Save Basketball, Playing In 3v3 Summer League

Boston Celtics v Philadelphia 76ers - Game Six

You know that when the biggest story in your sport every night is some white kid from Duke tripping people with his feet, the game is in need of a face lift. And I feel like the NBA is more of a reality show these days than a professional sports league so you know nobody there is going to do anything about it. But thank god Allen Iverson is still around to save us all, and that’s exactly what he’ll be doing this summer.

BOOM. Allen Iverson is signed on to play in the BIG3 as a player/coach. A real Reggie Dunlop in the making. What’s the Big3, you ask? Good question. They say that immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And when basketball realized they were in need of a Renaissance, they looked to hockey. They saw how 3-on-3 overtime completely changed the game. They saw how entertaining and electrifying 3v3 hockey is. They saw that there is already a professional 3v3 hockey league now. So basketball then went out and made their own professional halfcourt 3v3 league that will debut this summer.

The BIG3. A league that was started by Ice Cube. You GoPresGo guys in the crowd may remember Ice Cube from such feature films as 21 Jump Street. The rest of us will remember Ice Cube from XXX: State of the Union. He was also in a movie called “Friday” and a rap group called “NWA” but those are some of his lesser known acts. Anyway, the BIG3 is going to travel to 8 cities this summer and other former NBA legends like Chauncey Billups, Jason Williams and Jermaine O’Neal are also on board. So yeah, you can go ahead and move the game of basketball from the Hot Seat to the Cool Throne now.

The only thing left that I need now to really sell me on this league is to make sure all of these games are outdoor and then we need the commentator from NBA Street to do the play-by-play calls. Elbooooow roooooooom. Ellllboooow roooooom.

P.S. – If eSports wants to be taken seriously, then give me a league where I can watch an NBA Street Vol. 2 tournament, followed by an NHL Hitz 2002 tournament, followed by an NFL Street tournament.
