The Yankees Need To Get The Hell Outta Anaheim

When you think of getting beat by the current Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim you think of getting beat by two of the greatest hitters of all time: The Fish (Mike Trout) and Albert Pujols. If you get beat by those guys and they dominate a series then you just tip your cap and move on. Well the Angels just took two of three against New York and Mike Trout was sidelined with his injury while Pujols went 2 for 13 with 0 RBIs. So how the hell did the fucking Angels just take two of three? Two names, Andrelton Simmons and motherfucking Eric Young Jr.

I really don’t want to hear the name Eric Young Jr. for the rest of my life. This dude was an absolute menace at the plate and in left field all series. He basically was Mike Trout, which is cool I guess since he’s been in the league eight years and been on five different teams. Two nights ago he hit the game-tying homer against Clippard and then followed that off with the game-winning base hit off Ben Heller in extras. Last night he picked up another two hits, a stolen base, and made two winning plays in left.

First there was the ball hit to left by Starlin, when third base coach decided it was a good idea to send Judge to the plate even though Eric Young Jr. had the ball way before Judge even reached third. Just a horrible decision considering the red hot Gary Sanchez was due up next and would’ve had the bases loaded. I mean look at this screenshot of the moment Young got the ball in his glove.

Aaron Judge is very fast for his size, don’t get me wrong, but only guys like Billy Hamilton can get the green light to be sent here. Just not a smart call any way you shape it. After Headley tied the game in the 7th (low key Headley was great this series) Judge came up with 1st and 2nd and nobody out. Right now I can’t think of a guy you’d least rather face than Aaron Judge in this situation. Judge hit a looping liner to left field off an 88 mph cutter bleeding over the plate. Eric Young Jr. of course came out of nowhere to fully layout and rob Judge. If this ball gets passed Young, both runs come around to score and Judge ends up on third. For me it was the play of the game. Later in the game Andrelton Simmons, a guy who hit four homers all of last year, blasted a two run shot off Ronald Herrera. Sweet.

And that was all she wrote.  Aaron Hicks made things a little interesting in the ninth when he doubled off the wall. The umpire originally ruled this the final out of the game and after a few replays I don’t know how they saw enough to overturn it.

They sent the Angels off the field after celebrating the win and brought the players back on. It brought up Judge to try and play hero ball once again, but he grounded out to third to end the threat. In the end, it was a bad series for New York who should’ve swept this third place Angels team with ease. The Angels have always given New York issues year in and year out, but this wasn’t a team I expected that to continue from. Not good.

If there was a shining moment last night it was this unreal play by 2017 All Star and Gold Glove winner Aaron Hicks. Just out of this world to rob a grand slam in the first.

Unfortunately Big Mike was fairly terrible for most of the night and erased the quick four spot the Bombers put up right off the bat.

Tonight, Sonny Gray vs. Jordan Montgomery should be a lot fun.

Let’s go beat up the A’s, we’re onto Oakland.
