The Boat Boyz Sink Giants Season

Drop3

Welp. This is gonna be a fun week for the Boat Boyz.

Credit to the Packers & Aaron Rodgers. After getting absolutely dominated for almost an entire half, Rodgers cashed in on a short field & a little bit of luck to inexplicably go into halftime with an 8-point lead. The final 30 minutes were simply Rodgers greatness & there’s no denying that. Carved up an elite Giants defense without his top weapon. He made adjustments & he was awesome.

Still, Big Blue had every opportunity to put the Pack in a much deeper hole early instead of allowing one of the best QBs to ever play the game hang around within a score. The defense did their job & then some for a half, holding GB to negative total yardage well into the second quarter. Playoff Eli was certainly there as well, making quality throw after quality throw. But the Boat Boyz failed their teammates early & often.

Beckham dropped a third down conversion that would’ve put them in FG territory. Instead, the Giants punted. Then he & fellow deckhand Sterling Shepard took turns dropping touchdowns. Beckham added another second half drop to stall another drive for good measure. Maybe not every throw was an absolute gimme (most of them were) but if you want the spotlight as one of the best, you gotta make some plays. Warming up with your shirtless crew in freezing temps prior to the biggest game of your life is all good fun until you can’t catch the football against a third-string secondary when the clock starts.

Special teams were no picnic either. Brad Wing punted like you’d expect an adult with braces to punt. Bobby Rainey had a KILLER brain cramp fielding a kick at the 3 that most likely would’ve gone out of bounds – and that was right after the Packers answered the Giants lone touchdown. In a contest with no giveaways until garbage time, drops & poor special teams were the reasons why the scoreboard eventually got out of hand.

This one stings – but it essentially followed the blueprint we saw all season long. For one reason or another, the offense simply couldn’t keep up with the top-notch play of their defense. Against offenses like the Packers, you can’t expect your D to keep the team in striking distance if they’ve gotta play over 21 of the final 30 minutes & you leave points on the field. I don’t care if it’s the ’85 Bears. This time, the blame falls largely on their young talent – Odell Beckham Jr. will hear it the most.

The jury is still out on ODB. There’s no arguing his talent. Takes more than that to be an “all-timer” though. He’s got a lot of career left but it’ll be interesting to see how he handles the blow-back he’s about to face. The stat lines are sweet, but his claims to fame at this point are a ridiculous catch in a loss, Josh Norman, a kicking net and now a boat. The Giants are nothing without him – but they’re both nothing until he can prove he’s capable of being the best when anything less isn’t good enough.
