Rest In Peace, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum
All things considered, you gotta consider this season a disappointment. After leading the Metro for like 75% of the year, Isles fans started to have dreams of a Drive For Five in the Coliseum’s final season. At the very least, a first round victory to get that “haven’t-won-a-playoff-series” monkey off their back. So to come away from this season with another 1 and done is a failure. No other way around it. I’ve tried to sugar coat it for myself. I’ve tried to look at the glass half full and say that to begin the season, Isles fans would have signed up for a play off appearance after being tied for second in the Metro. But thats not real life. We saw the potential of this team for November through February. We knew what they were capable of. And losing here in the first round is well, well short of that.
The future is still bright, of course. The move to Brooklyn begins now. But you would have really liked to see the franchise take a step forward and advance in the post season. Will have to wait at least another season.
Rest in Peace to the Coliseum. The Old Barn provided a lot of good memories for the fans of Long Island for 30 somethin years. Barclays wont be able to compare but its the next step for this franchise as Tavares’ Isles try to land that elusive 5th Cup.
