Guys,

Got this email from our college because we played in the boys and girls intramural Dodgeball championships and we all got disqualified for cursing at the other post lost to another team over whether some got hit by the balls or not. Our favorite line “Though two teams took home “intramural champions” t-shirts, that night, there were no winners.” When did arguing become a pussification-magnet?

Subject: Intramural Dodgeball Conduct

You are receiving this email because you played in a championship game for intramural dodgeball on Wednesday night.

I was very troubled to hear about widespread poor conduct throughout the championship games on Wednesday night. This feedback not only came from our workers but also from nearby observers. Though two teams took home “intramural champions” t-shirts that night, there were no winners. Any team that receives a 0 or 1 for a conduct rating during the playoffs is disqualified, and each of the teams in the championship games received a 0. You are all officially disqualified.

In our meeting at the beginning of the season, I reviewed some of the expectations of captains, and stressed the message each captain needed to pass along to his or her team:

· Ensure that your team follows the rules and regulations of that particular activity.

· Exemplify exceptional sportsmanship at all times and encourage sportsmanship with your team and opponents.

· Maintain a cooperative and helpful attitude with all officials and staff members.

· You are the leader of your team, lead by example!

Each team lost sight of those guidelines on Wednesday nights. Siena Intramurals is about creating fun, competitive, friendly participation opportunities for all of our students. If you choose to participate in any intramural activity in the future, please make sure that you do not lose sight of that, and that your behavior is in line with Siena’s values as well.

If you have any feedback that you would like to send to me, I welcome it, as we are always looking to improve the intramural experience for each participant. But I would also ask that each of you take an objective look at yourselves, your team, and your team’s behavior on Wednesday night and consider how you could contribute to making the intramural experience more positive for everyone involved in the future.

What the fuck is going on with IM sports lately? You got Emory trying to take back trophies for mean chants from fans, Siena vacating dodgeball championships for unsportsmanlike behavior after the fact. I feel like colleges have this weird skewed vision of what IM sports are. Like they’re enforcing NCAA rules and regulations all over the place trying to clean it up and keep everybody feeling happy. Umm you guys know it’s not real sports right? Like there’s an “intramural” in the title for a reason? The whole point is to be as big a dick as possible and make fun of the other teams and start rivalries and have the fans going wild. It’s the last gasp of former high school athletes looking for a place to be competitive. I mean you get a t-shirt if you win and the season’s over. We’re not talking about scholarships on the line or something. Bottom line is everything short of just straight up fist fighting is fair game in IM sports as far as I’m concerned. If you can’t take a little heat from other teams go join the polisci club or something. Not to mention this is fucking dodgeball we’re talking about here. Not even a real sport. A kids game on the Intramural level. Who gives a fuck. Let em play!
