Movie Death Match Tournament: Round Two

thumb1a-1

We have entered Round 2 of our Movie Character Death Match Tournament.  I chose movie characters that don’t rely solely on guns, since bringing a knife/sword to a fictional gun death match would usually result in some pretty awesome characters losing just because of the weapon they had.  And I don’t want to stack this tournament where a guy like Braveheart or Predator could just crush the field.  We will admittedly be starting out with only a few heavy hitters in this tourney.  But if this tournament is a success, I will do different ones using different genres and other great characters.  Anyway, here are the rules.

Rules:

  1. Seeding and opening matchups are drawn at random.  Sometimes you have a beatdown in the first round, sometimes you have a matchup of two powerhouses, like Clippers/Spurs in the playoffs this year.
  2. Each matchup is a fight to the death.
  3. Competitors are allowed to bring any item that is generally associated with them.  Example: Batman would have all his gadgets, Link would have his sword, Indiana Jones would have a whip, etc.  The items the fighters have will be noted in the blog.
  4. Tie-breakers are decided by a coin flip.

Bobby Boucher vs. Indiana Jones

1

Tale of the Tape: Boucher handled The Fight Club Narrator while being dressed head to toe in his football uniform.  Indy comes into the matchup with his trust whip and an IQ roughly 75 points higher than The Waterboy.

Mr. Miyagi vs. Rocky

3

Tale of the Tape: We have a battle of styles here, as Miyagi brings the teachings of the Far East while Rocky brings the toughness of North South Philly.  Miyagi has shown his ability to heal, while Rocky will not stop fighting unless you kill him (or his wife is in a coma after having a baby).

The Beast vs. Frank Dux

6

Tale of the Tape: The biggest dog left in the fight takes on a guy with a lot of fight in the dog (I think that made sense).  Again, not sure if Belle has made The Beast soft, but that is up for you the voter to decide.

Maximus vs. The Patriot

7

Tale of the Tape:
I would say the headliner to this round is Maximus Decimus Meridius, father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife taking on Benjamin Martin AKA The Patriot AKA “The Ghost” who has a similar backstory.  Maximus wields a sword and his armor, while Martin has a hatchet and the instincts of any great guerrilla fighter.  This second round matchup is similar to last year’s Kentucky vs. Wichita State NCAA tourney game.  Two legit forces that are squaring off early, despite having the talent to win the whole thing.
