What a deal. Welcome the fuck home, Carlos Gomez. Gold Glove center fielder, potential leadoff hitter, tons of speed, enough of a power bat and he’s under control for next season. Admittedly having a down year, probably due to a bit of injury, but this is a big move and a major upgrade in this lineup. He’s not a full blown super star type, but he is a very, very good player at a premium position.

And the best part of all is you only had to give up a guy currently smack in the middle of a Tommy John injury and Wilmer Flores. A lot of Mets fans were ready to crown Wilmer Flores MVP and put him in the Hall when he had like 8 home runs earlier this year, but the reality is he’s a sub par player with no position defensively. Streaky as hell and while his highs were high, his lows were low. He’s a middle of the road type of guy who really will never fit in anywhere. Wheeler, shockingly, ended up being the odd man out with the Mets rotation. After coming in the Beltran trade he was considered the crown jewel of the Mets arms in the farm. Fast forward to 2015, not so much. Not only because of the injury but just the way these young guns progressed, somehow Zack actually became the black sheep of the bunch. Didnt quite burst on the scene after being called up the way the rest of the Mets pitchers have. I have no doubt, assuming he recovers from this injury, he’ll be a good pitcher in this league. He throws very hard and hes a good pitcher, its not like he’s a bum. But bottom line is when we went into the deadline worried about giving up someone like Syndergaard and you can walk away with a guy like Carlos Gomez with Wheeler being the arm you give up, thats a GREEN LIGHT. I’ll pack these guys’ bags for them.

I have no idea how you clear medical reports when one of the pieces in the trade is clearly very, very injured. I’m sure like Gary Cohen said on the broadcast it might take a little longer than usual. But bottom line is Carlos Gomez is back home where he belongs in Flushing Meadows. Filling all sorts of holes for this team at a low cost.

Round of applause for Sandy Alderson. I have CRUSHED him all year and he has thrown it all back in my face. He’s made the small moves. He’s made the big moves. He improved the offense, bolstered the pen. The Mets pitching is good enough to take this team places and he made the moves to hopefully surround them with enough offense, and in this case a little defense too. Dont know what this means for Juanny Beisbol but for a player of Gomez’s caliber, don’t care.
