Mets Set Franchise Record With 12 Runs In One Inning Thanks To Cespedes Driving In 6

15 batters. 45 minutes. 12 runs in. 6 of them via Cespedes capped off with his salami. I’ve never seen an inning quite like that. Reminded me of the famous “And then God Made The 8th Inning” against the Braves back in the Piazza days when they scored 10. It surpassed the 11 runs they scored against the CUbs in 2006 but I dont have as clear of a recollection of that as I do with the 10 spot they dropped on Atlanta. Just an absolutely ONSLAUGHT of the Giants in that 4th inning last night.

Cespedes is now batting .323 with 7 bombs and 23 RBI. Last night was the first time hes been back in the lineup after missing a week with his leg bruise. Hes a complete savage. Pinch hit three run bomb the other night, 6 RBI in an inning yesterday. The dude is doing exactly what he did last August after the trade deadline. Everyone in the world was bracing for the Cespedes regression and guess what folks? So far, it hasnt happened. He’s mashing the cover off the ball. I bet everyone who wanted him off the team after that dropped fly ball in Kansas City opening night feels like a fucking idiot.

And the best part is that right now, despite Yo playing out of his mind, he’s not even really carrying this team. Everyone is hitting. As a matter of fact this 7 game winning streak has coincided with him on the bench for most of it. Conforto mashing. NEIL mashing. Granderson has awoken. Even despite the insanely high number of strikeouts, David Wright getting involved with some big hits in key spots. This team is showing its full capability right now, and guess what? Its downright SCARY. Obviously they cant maintain this current pace. But if as the season goes on if this lineup just has a few guys clicking at the same time, they are very capable of putting up big numbers. There will be slumps. There will be stretches where they face better competition than what they’ve seen the past couple weeks. But good teams destroy bad pitching and bad teams and thats exactly what these guys are doing. Some of the names and reputations in this lineup dont exactly come across as “scary.” When people think of the Mets, they think of pitching, not hitting. But the fact of the matter is this lineup can crush. If the rest of the league wants to continue to think of the Mets as a team thats completely reliant on their pitching, they can go right ahead. You can try to spin it negatively that they’re too reliant on the home run (btw, the first 8 runs of that 4th inning last night were not via the home run). You can come up with whatever rhetoric or perception you want about this team. But the bottom line is this team has some big fuckin bats to go along with all those arms.

deGrom on the bump tonight. BIG matchup with Noah vs Bumgarner on Sunday. And then its 7 with the Braves and Padres. Metsies about to go on a big, big run in the win column, folks.
