Give Brian a follow. He’s doing God’s work

The Mets overhauling their team at the deadline and turning into one of the best offensive teams in the NL to go along with their stellar pitching has been one of the best things to happen to the Mets fan base in a long, long time. But unfortunately there’s one negative side effect of the Mets 2nd half success and that is this PREPOSTEROUS idea that Terry Collins not only isn’t a bad manager, but that he’s actually Manager of the fucking Year. That, my friends, is actually the worst sports argument I’ve ever heard. Worse than when people tried to say Geno Smith was going to be a pro bowler. If it wasnt for Matt Williams, Terry Collins would be the worst manager alive. And my main man Brian Mangan went back over the entire season and chronicled every time Terry was a complete brain dead idiot. We’re not talking about situations where hindsight is 20/20. We’re not talking about when he made the right moves but got burned. We’re talking about time and time again where Terry Collins yanked a starter or brought in a reliever where the entire world knew it was a bad idea from the jump. Using guys like Parnell and O’Flaherty over and over and OVER when everyone else with a brain knew they had no SHOT at getting through the inning. Using lefty specialists against righty batters. Leaving starters in at 110 pitches in blow outs. Pulling them at like 97 pitches in close games. Stupid, stupid decisions on a very regular basis.

And yet there are still these Terry Collins apologists who think not only is he doing an OK job, but that hes manager of the year! Its simply outrageous. They say things like “he held the clubhouse together” as if thats a real thing. Like Terry Collins sitting in the dugout doing his patented “UHHHHH” is some sort of magical glue that held the team together during the first half of the year when their offense was putrid. Has nothing to do with the 5 aces that were trotting out there on the mound every day. It was all Terry Collins and his magic intangibles.

Bottom line is I think good managers are ones that dont screw up. I think its very hard for a manager to influence a game positively. Its very easy for them to influence one negatively. And while I understand this is a bit unfair for me to say, times where he made the “right” move and Eric Campbell gets a big pinch hit or John fucking Mayberry hits a dinger, those are more of a fluke than anything. Whereas constantly going to the same shitty relievers in the wrong situations are bonehead moves that are going to fail the VAST majority of the time. And thats what Collins does most often. And dont give me that “The Mets are 6.5 up! What more do you want from the guy!” Uhh, I want to be 9.5 up. Because thats at least where the Mets would be if it wasnt for him. Give this team a normal, average manager and there are probably 5 or 6 direct situations that are handled in a much better manner probably resulting in 3 or 4 more wins. The team having a big division lead is not because of Terry Collins, its despite him. Its because of the pitching staff and veterans like Granderson who carried the load and then Sandy making all the right deadline moves to turn this team into an actual big league club. Terry Collins actually does more harm to all of that than good. And if you need the proof just read through those tweets.

PS – Some of those tweets are kind of bullshit too. I will admit that. Not every example there is one I’d use to bash Terry. But a lot of the big ones are all in there.

PPS – This tweet sums up everything the Terry apologists and the always-positive Mets fans cant seem to grasp:

Just because the team is winning doesnt mean that there arent aspects of it that are performing poorly. Not sure why discussing that and criticizing that all the sudden makes you a bad fan.
