Knicks Fans Are Being RIDICULOUS About Amare Stoudemire

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. I feel like I’m on the Truman Show and this is all a prank to make me look ridiculous. Knicks fans are acting like Amare Stoudemire is a lifetime Knicks who won 3 rings with the franchise with the farewell they’re giving this bum. You’d think he was fucking dead with the amount of “we say goodbye to a friend and a brother” garbage. Endless articles praising him for “making the Knicks relevant again.” Fans on twitter thanking him – legit thanking him – for signing with the Knicks for 100 million dollars because nobody else would. Completely overlooking the actual results he produced on the court and giving him all the glory because he always tried really hard to come back from his injuries. These were actual tweets I got from Knicks fans last night:

WACKY man. Straight up Looney Tunes stuff. Like part of me wanted to stop and ask if we were talking about the same player. I will look back on the Amare Stoudemire era as one of the worst contracts in NBA history. Out of a possible 380-something games, he started about a 160 of them. Played in like 250 of them. I’ll remember him missing the playoffs in 2011 for hurting himself in pre game warm ups. I’ll remember him punching the fire extinguisher like a fucking moron (real Knick-first move huh?) And I’ll remember him taking baths in red wine while uploading weird shit about being Jewish on to Instagram.

But it seems like most Knicks fans are handing out the ultimate free pass. They dont care that he was injury prone, they care that he worked hard to get healthy. Which he never did. They dont care about the complete lack of success after he signed, they just care that he signed with the Knicks when Lebron and everyone else turned them away. Even though he was an aging, injured player with a horrendous knee history that was offered ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS. Knicks fans acting like he came to NY and did pro bono work. They use this argument of “no Amare, no Melo.” Well guess what, folks? The Amare-Melo era has been ATROCIOUS. It was all Dantoni’s fault. All Carmelo’s fault (Everyone loves throwing out Amare’s stat line before Carmelo came, conveniently forgetting that the Melo arrival coincides perfectly with his body breaking down.) As far as they’re concerned Amare was a hero just dealt a bad hand and his number should be in the rafters.

Crazy man. I understand it was exciting when he first came here. I understand that first season he played like a monster. But I’m not gonna let 9 straight 30 point games define an entire 5 year contract. Looking back on the whole of this deal, it was a DISASTER. Plain and simple. Zero success on the court. None. The word “relevant” keeps getting thrown around and I guess thats a relative term. Aside from one season when they were a 2 seed the rest of his time here was pretty much a laughing stock. And I’m not really knocking Amare for it either – everyone knew what he was when he signed up. A huge risk but one that the Knicks needed to over pay for. We knew he wasnt worth that money and we knew this had the potential to blow up in our faces and it did. Injuries suck, but when you’re evaluating a player or judging his career you cant just ignore them. You cant give a guy a free pass if he cant stay on the court. He was a 100 million dollar bust, no other way to put it.
