JT Wants To Retire As An Islander

I’ve taken my cracks at those speculating about how John Tavares’ future will play out once his contract ends in 2018. Amongst others, the noted good ol’ Taranna Boy has been linked to the Maple Leafs more times than I care to admit, and with any Toronto-area radio interview he does, that one painfully cliche question is always brought up.

“Are you excited to sign with Toronto in 2018?”

Well earlier today the Captain put an end to any and all speculation by prettyyyy much signing a verbal contract-extension with the Islanders with Canada listening.

When Andrew Walker asked what his favorite part of being a Leaf will be on his TSN590 show, your boy struck Toronto down with the swiftness by pledging his allegiance to house Isles across Canadian airwaves.

“I wouldnt count on that. I’ve always showed my commitment and desire to play on Long Island. I would love for that to continue for the long-haul. I think if you look at some of the greatest players in the game they have been able to spend their entire career somewhere and I hope I’m in that same position.”

I’ve been saying it from day one, Johnny T is and always will be a one jersey guy and today he solidified that notion. With Ledecky stating his main goal is to keep Tavares in an Islanders uniform for the entirety of his career[and I am sure Garth isn’t opposed] it’s obvious that both sides are on the same page when it comes to where they see Johnny Hockey retiring, as for now.

Born an Islander, die an Islander. It’s La Familia.

PS – Except Frans, Kyle, and Matt. Gone but never forgotten.
