If David Ortiz Is A Man Of His Word He Will Fire His Agent
As everyone should know by now, it was “leaked” that David Ortiz is going to retire at the end of this year. Yes the very same David Ortiz who said:
“What Derek Jeter is doing is fine because he’s Derek Jeter. What Mariano did is fine because it’s Mariano,” he said. “But I don’t know if I’m going to go through all that. I’m not going to wake up and be like, ‘I’m going to play this year and then not anymore.’ To me, it’s going to be how things go through the season and how I feel, and then I’m going to be like, ‘Mama, it’s over.’ I’m going to let her know.”
I’ve wanted to like Ortiz ever since he told KFC to “get the bat out of your ass“. But I find it pretty odd that just over a year ago he would have that opinion, and now he announces his own retirement early. Every Red Sox fan is responding to this saying, “it has to be his agent or sponsors” like he would have no idea about the “leak.” It could never be that he’s a hypocrite and has been one his whole career that now realizes he wants whatever shine he can get before he leaves. Roger Goodell knows about every leak in the NFL but David Ortiz could never know about his agent tipping off a reporter. Right Boston?
At the end of the day, he is the perfect hero for hypocrite Boston. They want to believe Tom Brady had no idea about the footballs, they want to believe that Ortiz never “knowingly” took steroids, and now they want to believe he had no idea that his agent and sponsors would leak his retirement. Well if that’s the case and his agent went behind his back, Ortiz should fire his team. Start fresh with new representation to get him deals after his playing days are over, and take a stand. That’s the only way Ortiz will have any credibility here. If it were a Yankee that pulled this stunt, Pres would be making Hank get arrested tomorrow in protest. (Read: To be cellmates) But since it’s Big Papi, he gets all the free passes in the world and we’ll sell a million shirts to a city of hypocrites.
PS: Jeter was quiet his whole career, meanwhile Ortiz never shuts the fuck up. Which guy seems more likely to willingly want his attention?
